A viewer from Las Vegas is extremely frustrated with all the signs posted at intersections.

Garage Sale signs, For Sale signs, Liquidation Sale signs… etc.

The viewer feels this should be illegal. He says it’s not only an eyesore, it also impairs proper vision when driving through the intersection. He feels posting at sign on a STOP sign should be against the law.

I agree, and guess what. It is!

Clark County has an ordinance in place.

Here are the details:

County Code: 16.09.030 Prohibition generally.

It is unlawful to sell or display any merchandise, goods, items, or wares on any improved or unimproved portion of a public right-of-way in the unincorporated area of Clark County except that which is otherwise expressly permitted by this code or state statute. (Ord. 1603 § 1, 1994: Ord. 994 § 2, (part), 1985)

16.09.040 Penalties for violation.

Any person, firm or corporation violating the terms of this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be sentenced to serve a term in the county jail of not more than six months or to pay a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars, or shall be punished by both such fine and imprisonment. (Ord. 1603 § 2, 1994)

The county suggests you don’t try and take down the signs yourself. It’s unsafe. You could get hurt doing so. They say to call the Public Response Office and give them the location. The enforcement officres can obtain the sign, call the violator, and possibly cite the offender.

Here’s the number: 702-455-7655

Also, if it’s in City of Las Vegas limits… they have a Neighborhood Response Team.

The office number is 702-229-6615.

I hope these numbers are useful. Remember, many times staff members aren’t aware of an issue until they are notified. You can help by letting them know.

Recently I contacted the county about a school zone sign on East Sahara near Hollywood. One direction said the school zone speed limit ended at 7:30 a.m. — and the other direction said 9:30 a.m.

This stayed that way for almost a year, until a viewer contacted me and we let the County engineers know. They are now making a new sign and will correct the problem by the end of this week. It was posted incorrectly.

Hopefully – all these small things will make a big difference in the end!
