Residents Rant: Faded Crosswalk on the East Side
Thursday, June 11th, 2009Paul is frustrated and wants to know why the crosswalk at Sahara Avenue and Orchard Valley Drive is so faded- it’s hardly visible!
Paul’s Question:
He writes: “With three elementary schools just around the corner, I would think that keeping this crosswalk looking bright, would be important! The crosswalk hasn’t been painted in two years! He says most parents use other routes to walk to school with their children, but the morning drive here is extremely busy and dangerous!”Answer:
I looked into this and found that this particular crosswalk is no longer maintained by the County or the City. The crosswalk has been left to “fade out” because the school boundaries were changed in July of 2007. The old designated school zone for this crosswalk was removed, and a new zone was made. As part of the changes, a traffic light was installed down the road at Sahara and Tree line, just north of Orchard Valley. The crosswalk at this intersection is now the primary route used for pedestrians to walk to school. It’s also the safest.
