A Bus Stop is Backing up Traffic!
Sherry Roretz wrote me an email and says:
The northwest corner of Charleston and Rainbow is a very busy intersection, and when you are traveling westbound on Charleston there is a bus stop just past the intersection near the Albertsons shopping center. Traffic always gets stopped and backs up when the bus is loading and unloading. Can they move the bus stop so the cars turning into the center aren’t forced behind a waiting bus and into the middle of a busy area? Help, its a mess! Melissa’s Answer: The city is currently in the middle of designing a special project for this intersection called the “Rainbow Traffic Capacity Improvement Project.” The plan involve building a combination bust turn and de-acceleration lane for the area. Right now, the project is in the early stages and work isn’t expected to start until at least 2010. Other work for this project includes the possiblity of making a new left turn pocket into the shopping center to help reduce the frequent unsafe u-turns. Moving the bus stop isn’t an option as it would just create the same situation and block the driveway that exists further to the west.
