Hoover Dam Bypass Progress

Hoover Dam Bypass 3

Hoover Dam Bypass 2

Hoover Dam Bypass

Hey Everyone, check out these pictures I took of the Hoover Dam Bridge under construction.  I took them on July 6th.  It’s really coming along and amazing to see.  This is going to be SO helpful to drivers that want to cross to or from Arizona.

You may remember when the wind blew so strong, it knocked one of the construction cranes over.  That delayed the project, but now it’s full steam ahead.

This is going to have a major affect on traffic here.  The current path is one way in each direction once you get close the Dam and it just is not enough to handle the traffic.   You mix visitors with tourists wanting to actually pull over and see this magnificent Dam and it’s just too much.

You look up at that bridge though, and wonder, how will they build the crossover piece!  Each side is done, but the center is missing.  We all know, it’s coming, and I can’t wait to watch it happen!

The bridge under construction is an incredible feat of engineering. The men working on it must have some of the same thrill of danger and accomplishment as did the men who worked on Hoover Dam.

The pictures are great, there is a web page available that gives more pictures than you can imagine including time lapse web cams from the very beginning.
You can see them at http://www.hooverdambypass.org Great site!

One of the negative things about the bypass that although it bypasses Hoover Dam, but it will not bypass Boulder City nor the most insane traffic light that I have ever endured on Nevada highways. That is the light at Railroad Pass Casino. A fourth of a mile or more of traffic headed towards Las Vegas will stop to allow one car to come out of the casino parking lot or to turn into the parking lot. That stop must cost more money in fuel wasted than anywhere I can think of. Railroad pass and the state should find a better way to get traffic in and out of the casino. It has saved someone money not having to build an answer, but it sure isn’t saving fuel or money for the motorist caught by that light. The few times I haven’t had to stop made me think something was wrong. The NDOT told me the plans for the bypass will solve the problem, but the problem is there are no funds allocated to build the bypass.

So when the bridge is finished, imagine traffic back up all the way to the bridge because of the bottleneck in Boulder City and Railroad Pass…

i think the new bridge is long long overdue and will be as much of an tourest attraction as the hoover dam is . but with all the money that we pay for our officials to dream up projects ,i can’t understand why no one has suggested that pedestrian walkovers be built on the dam so that traffic could flow without stopping every dam (<pun)10th car because a handful of tourists want to wander back and forth from one side and then back again ,and maybe again!!!the idling miles and miles of cars that are spewing incredible amounts of exhaust into the air on the weekends and the mass amts. of wasted gas.
please submit my idea if it hasn’t been offered to the public and see what they think in one of your news casts.
design the walkovers in sections build them in town and in one month “bam”, complete and inplace.
i da know ,it just seems to be an intelligent inexpensive solution for a “major” traffic bottleneck that is not addressed now ,or is it going away soon. the tourists coming from phoenix are telling their friends about the wasted time and gas 3 1/2 even as much as 5 hours one way mind you , then back so its doubled. personally i wouldn’t be to anxious to come come back till the new bridge was complete and that is another year away ,if were lucky. my old man always said there is no such thing as luck you make your own.Expect the worst and plan for the best, problem solved. no more people getting hit by “lookie lue drivers” on the dam,” hopfully” and millions and millions of cubic yards of fresh air saved for breathing, millions of gallons of gas are being wasted and thats probably every weekend.. i mean lets get real, the breathable air only extends upward about 2 1/2 miles. we exist in a “finite environment” it demands more respect. talking about a problem doesn’t resolve it, the need for clearly presented ideas , products creatively designed , and a logically expressed need. “like cold water on a burn” “yes please” were running out of TIME
    thanks for listening,

ps “why didn’t i think of that “yes pedestrian walkovers on the dam ” “sharing knowledge improves everything “
