I usually just pull up and fill up. But… I must say, lately, I too am noticing and hesitating when it comes to filling up my tank.
Recently, talked about our high school graduation year on our morning show. I graduated in 1993. This prompted me to search and see what gas prices were back then. I couldn’t believe what I saw! The price fluctuated from like 99 cents to $1.10 — this shocked me!
Can you imagine??? A buck to fill up!? How great would that be!?
It costs me about 50 dollars to fill up these days. And I have a 4-dour sedan. I dread filling up now. I think to myself as I fill up and watch the numbers roll higher, “there goes the cost of my monthly gym membership, plus my favorite wrap from tropical smoothies, and that magazine I like to buy, oh and the movie I wanted to see this week!”
But then again, I guess I wouldn’t get to any of those things if I coulnd’t drive there… so then I calm down.
We are inching toward $4.00 right now.
Did you see that gas giveaway? The lines of cars down Flamingo waiting for a chance at a free tank of gas.
CLICK HERE to see the video and read the story, it’s amazing how many people lined up for that! I did find it entertaining to watch. Especially the people that pushed their cars into the gas station! I understand it caused quite a traffic mess though… which was probably frustrating for people who were not in line.
This video shows how much people are in need of something FREE right now.
I hope we can all get through this.
I know there are ways to save on gas. ( i.e. by using your Vons card, buying a certain amount of products from the gas station store, etc.) But feel free to share your tips with everyone… the more we know… the more we save! ![]()

I was going to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1970. There was a “gas war” going on during the spring with gas going for 19 cents a gallon.

Dana
I just went to take my granddaughter to school and could not see if cars were coming on Banburry St.
Coming out of Marino Hills I wanted to turn right, but could not see if cars were coming North on Banburry and I could not pull into the center lane because construction trucks have left there loads in the the center lanes all the way from Town Center to Crestdale. It an accident waiting to happen.

What’s the deal in Summerlin, Russell and Hualapai, there are 3 schools; Frititia Middle, Batterman Elementary and Bishop Gorman… Where are the crosswalks???? We live in Ladera and my children can’t walk home. There is no light on Russel and hualapai and no crosswalks? Can you tell me why?
Thanks Anna

I thought this particular blog was about the raise in gase prices??!!
I have to agree with you Dayna! I graduated in 99 and it just amazes me how quickly it has risen since then. If you look at it, from when you graduated in 93 gas was 99 cents now it is $4.00. We have gone up $3 in just an average of 14-15 years. It is crazy! Especially when it took SO long to get to $1.00 a gallon, now look at us! Like I said, it’s crazy!

I have been looking everywhere on your website to write to your station. I am sorry if I am writing a comment in the wrong place. Hopefully you will forward this to the department who would want to do this following story suggestion. For about the last couple of months I have been riding my bike to work, partially because we can’t afford another vehicle right now, but mostly because of gas prices. Now that I have a summer position before school starts again I thought I would just ride my bike. As gas prices were rising and rising I have seen many others seem to making the same choice. My problem is there are many more of us out there, and since I have started this new adventure I have been almost hit/killed three times. The reason is the drivers are not watching out for bikers. Some roads we have bike lanes others we have to share. I just wish something could be broadcast so the valley could be made aware that there are more of us out there and of the dangers for us. Many times the drivers are coming out of a subdivision, and looking only to the left and not the right, as their car is rolling toward the intersection, making us swerve into the intersection or putting on our brakes where we almost flip our bikes. Other times they are turning into a street and don’t see us. They are only looking for cars in the way not bikers. Please do some king of segment on this. Safety, watching out for others on the roads, even skateboarders, scooters, we all have this fear.
Thanks for listening. Liz Trudel 787-9422.
