Pahrump Drivers

This morning there were plenty of accidents and road closures due to the weather (snow, rain.)  I can’t believe the amount of injury accidents we had in they valley.

And it was another snowy morning on Mountain Pass.  I can’t believe the amount of people that drive in to the Las Vegas area from Pahrump.  If there is an accident or road closure on State Route 160 … it pretty much adds an extra HOUR or so to their commute.  Drivers have to turn around, head north on 160 then connect to U.S. 95.  Yikes! I bet that takes a while – huh?

How frustrating… but I guess it’s worth it for those residents.  We received several emails from people living there this morning.  I know you guys really appreciate the traffic and weather coverage!   So glad we can help you get on your way!

Tell me WHY it’s worth it… what makes the long drive worth it for those of you living in Pahrump? I like to know these things.  I am not a fan of driving… therefore, it wouldn’t be for me… but I’m sure many of you have GREAT reason for living there… so leave a comment below.

The reason the road was closed today was because of snow plows.  Once they finished plowing, the road opened.

Hey, it’s pretty to look at, not pretty to drive in! Right!?

Drive Safe!

Hi Regarding the drive from Pahrump. It’s worth it because when I used to live at Ann Road & the 95 which was only 17 miles away from work, it still took me an hour to get to and from work everyday in stop and go traffic the whole way plus lights. We moved out to Pahrump, we now live on an acre of land (plenty of room for kids to play and raise a family)and have a more laid back lifestyle in a small town. The drive is one hour of highway driving and I listen to my Ipod and the time flies! My biggest complaint is when it snows, not enough radio stations or television stations announce it so I get all the way to the pass and have to turn around. With all the people that commute from Pahrump the media really needs to announce this but all the news and radios focus on is the 95 and the spaghetti bowl and accidents around Las Vegas. In these instances, I work from home where I have an office set up but not everyone is that lucky…One last thing: I see some awesome sunrises and sunsets on my drive to and from Pahrump…

I have lived in pahrump for 4 years. Every time it snows, I pray that I will be able to make it over the hill. Why doesn’t the snowplow begin plowing when it begins snowing? Clear roads mean less problems!

I have to agree with Cindy on a lot of her comments. I lived in Las Vegas for over 15 years and frankly, it has become a rat race. Due to a divorce and remarriage I was looking for a home to purchase. What I found here in Vegas was terrible. The price of the home and land is outrageous, what one can typically afford is just like everyone else’s home, and they are so close, if you want to borrow some sugar you can have it passed to you through your bedroom windows! I live in a 2000 sq ft home with 1.25 acres of land (all landscaped desert/grass). If I had purchased this in LV, it would have been in excess of 650 to 750K! No thanks. I paid less than half of that. The drive is easy – straight into town at 70 MPH. I’ll put up with the pass – been there a year and have had two instances. 1 hour to get to work is easy to handle when you consider it all – easy living, REAL customer service at businesses unlike those in LV, room to breath, no traffic, very little crime and small town atmosphere! I too ask the question why the news media doesn’t provide traffic updates on 160 on a timely basis. I too ask why the snow/ice isn’t removed on a timely basis. If I were to guess, I would say there is between 8 to 10K commuters every day.

I would much rather drive an hour from my lovely, quiet neighborhood in Pahrump. Than to drive an hour from 10 miles away to my work near the airport. Either way you are gonna be in the car. At least when I get home and on my days off, I have some space around me, a beautiful view of Mt Charleston (not of my neighbors) and room to breath.

However, Pahrumpians, don’t share too much. We already have enough Las Vegans moving out here!

Oh, and did anyone mention that we have our own water and don’t have to “steal” it from other counties?!

People out here think that this is a long drive. In fact, many people on the East coast drive the same amount everyday to escape living in the big cities. Also, even though there is more room, people are noe driving from Overton and areas around to work in LV. The next time you are stuck in traffic, remind yourselves of what people in the tristate area around NYC put up with. Imagine bumper to bumper traffic from Primm to the Tropicana exit 6 lanes from 3DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS”’
