Driving behind SUVs & Trucks: My Frustration!

Okay, now it’s time for ME to tell YOU what’s driving ME crazy!

I am a car driver.  I own a four door sedan.  I love my car… and I enjoy driving it (most of the time.)  But, what really bothers me the most about driving… is driving BEHIND an SUV or Truck.   I hate it!  I can’t see anything in front of me… and it really drives me crazy!   I like to be able to see the road around me and see what lies ahead.

I experience this every day… and believe me, I know there’s nothing that can be done about it.  No, I am not a Truck and SUV ”Hater” … I just wish I didn’t get stuck behind them so often!  It’s terrible.

I know many people write to me and express their frustrations with tractor trailers… saying they wish Nevada would have a truck lane like in California.  A lane that is designated for big rigs… so they stay out of the regular traffic lanes.  Nevada has tried to do that in the past… but the Trucker’s Association didn’t allow that to happen.

Listen, everyone has the right to be out on the road and use the highways as long as they are of age and have the proper licensing.  Just think, if we didn’t have tractor trailers… we wouldn’t have produce, furniture, etc…. delivered to us from out of town.  We need them, and I know many truck drivers work hard, long hours, and it’s a tough job.  I can’t imagine driving one of those big trucks, so I give them credit!

So back to my first point… we all have frustrations… many of you dislike the construction congestion…. ME, I dislike driving behind trucks and SUVs.  I can sit in traffic, as long as I can see in front of me!

That’s my two cents! :)

If the trend continues (and let’s all hope it doesn’t) the trucks and SUVs will be on lift-kits so high you can see _under_ them!

Anymore though, I’m more inclined to drive behind the big rigs (with a safe following distance of course). Given the amount of training and experience those drivers have, I feel a lot more confident that they’re paying attention to the road.

If you like to see around the trucks, and SUV’s and you state that you can’t. Try this out (I drive a specialized tractor trailer. ) give yourself at least 2 to 3 seconds of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

It would be great if big rigs would stay in the slow lanes and out of the fast lane.I hate it when you have one next to the other and you can’t get by.just bulids more traffic.

i have driven big rigs for 34 yrs with no accidents or tickets and 3 million miles..putting us in the right lane is an invitation for disaster..it happens all the time in california, illinois, ohio, and its not the trucks fault..most of these idiots are in to much of a rush and will cross 3 or 4 lanes of traffic to make their exit when what will 1 or 2 miles more out of the way hurt to arrive alive..i run the far left lane and will continue..its safer for me and safer for the cars merging and trying to get off.. if you have never seen what an 80,000 lb rig can do to a car and the people in it you dont want to trust me..thank god nevada and arizona are not like the nut cases in california..their split speed limits and right lane only cause more accidents than if they just left us alone and let us run the same speed limit and lanes as the cars…

Look at the traffic flow in LA with the trucks restricted to the right 2 lanes and compare to our traffic flow with trucks in all the lanes. It seems to moive alot smoother here than there.

  6. Rich Says:

I would have to disagree with your statement that traffic moves smoother here. I can get to places faster in LA than here and there are FAR less people here. However, I do agree with nicks comment on being in the left lane. I’ve always enjoyed that better. it can be scary at times when you are stuck behind a slow moving Truck in the slow lane and have to merge into traffic going near 80 mph. Or worse, seeing some moron floor it to get in front of truck to and you are infront of the truck or behind it. BUT ANYWAYS more importantly I HATE SUV’s. Overated, gas gusslin’, oversized monsters on the road. Typical SUV driver is some women 5′3 or shorter who gets the biggest SUV she can find and can barely see over the steering wheel. Unexpected braking bothers me most. My last scenario I received a ticket because of my rage. An SUV out of know where slams on her brakes in front of me. Good thing i was a safe distance behind or i would have been in her backseat. So now I find myself dangerously close and can’t see anything in fornt of her. The car behind me is ridng my bumper. When I see brake lights again i think to myself Im screwed. So i check my side view drop gears and punch it into the right lane. No accident, however I look like the “A” hole to the motorcycle cop with the radar gun whom she was braking for. AAaargh!!!!!

I do drive one of those big trucks and I want to see around the person in front of me also. So, to be considerate of my fellow drivers, i try to stay alittle to the right side of the lane so someone can see around me. However, some people don’t get that. They will continue to drive directly behind me. That’s their problem at that point.

Many people complain about trucks and SUV’s. MY complaint is about drivers switching lanes with NO Directions at At all, thus cutting you off. SO many people do that, with no curteousy to others. This causes so many accidents and most people dont understand why they got into an accident.
My plea to other drivers: PLEASE USE YOUR DIRECTIONALS. thats why they were installed in the first place.
    thank yo.
