Today someone asked me the most popular question I get around the holidays, “Are you going home for Christmas or Thanksgiving?”

The answer, as always, is “no.”  I am in the television business and it’s just not feasible most holidays.  Do I feel sad? Not really.  Not because I don’t want to have Christmas morning in my parents house… and see my friends… but because of the problems I hear and see people experience when they travel.

Delayed flights…. long security lines… weather problems… etc.

It’s all very stressful.

Then, add this in the mix.  Your bags packed full of clothes and belongings for your visit… your liquids in clear plastic baggies… plus all the gifts you want to bring along for everybody else.  Ahhh, I hate thinking about it!

McCarran Airport is already putting out its warnings… “get a ride to the airport!”  Gas prices are creeping up and over 3.00 a gallon for unleaded…. and road construction is coming to a quick halt for the 5 day travel period.   It all sounds familiar… year after year.

My hometown is Rochester, New York.

Rochester Snow

It’s cold and snowy in the winter mostly… which is pretty on Christmas.  But, it makes it difficult to get around.   Which is fine… if you didn’t have dozens of family members and friends to visit in your limited amount of time.

So… my point.  No… I am not going home for the holidays.. and I am “okay” with it.

The best part this year… my parents are coming here!  It should be fun.

And I’ll make my trip back home sometime in the Spring or Summer.  :)

  1. Spending time with the family during the holidays is nice but seeing them anytime during the year is just as nice. It doesn’t have to be during the holidays for me.

I only get frazzled dealing with the traffic and congestion of cars and people so my husband and I prefer to stay home.

We are fortunate to have his parents live nearby in Boulder City so we see them all of the time. Our family is coming here for Thanksgiving this year so that will be nice. :)
