My Trip to New York State….

Whenever I go out of town, I love to write about my “travel” experiences!

So…. last week… I traveled home to see my family and friends in Rochester, NY.

I took Airtran… which now offers the first NON STOP flight from Las Vegas to Rochester! Wow, that was nice!!! It was a 3 hour and 40 minute flight! No stress… no hassle. And, it was only 109 dollars one way. I figured out how they are able to offer the low fares. The plane was nice… the staff was friendly… but they don’t have televisions or movie screens and no food is offered. They give you earphones and offer satellite radio which was nice. And, you do get complimentary drinks (soda, water, coffee, etc) and a little bag of pretzels… but that’s about it. So make sure to eat before you go or bring your own snack!

So… we arrive in New York… and my husband and I are instantly reminded of “home” – the town we grew up in! The air smells different, feels different, and obviously the landscape is much greener.

It was nice to look at for a while….

We traveled to some wineries with my husband’s parents and it was so pretty. The Finger Lakes are beautiful! If you have never been… it’s worth a trip.

We drove through some small towns to get to the one lake we wanted to visit…. it was just so interesting seeing these small stores along the way… and homes that sit on endless acres of land. I used to live around all this stuff ( working in Elmira and Jamestown, NY). I thought to myself, “what do these people do all day?” But, everyone lives their life differently… and some really enjoy this simple way of life.

It sure is quiet where I’m from. You could hear a pin drop at the mall. One night, my husband and I were driving home at about 12:30 at night (we met some friends out) and we were the only ones on the road! We didn’t pass anyone! It was soooo strange. I mean, I grew up like this… I guess I just never noticed because I didn’t know it any other way.

Let me remind you… it’s not like Rochester, NY is a small town. And even the suburb I am from (Henrietta, NY) is not that small. It’s just “different.” It’s quieter… and there is less “congestion.”

My husband’s brother lives in the country. You could see herds of deer in the field… and some of them attempted to run out in the road! I remembered what it was like to see those little eyes reflecting in the trees! I thought… “in Las Vegas we don’t have to worry about this.” But they sure are pretty to look at.

For the most part, driving is simple in the Rochester area… it definitley makes the day less stressful!

My Mom and I went to New York City for a day to see a Broadway Show. That was different too. The taxi cab from the airport was interesting. Normally, I would have been holding the handle, worried we were going to get into an accident, but this time it actually felt normal. I wasn’t nervous at all… the traffic didn’t scare me! New York is a fun place. It’s so interesting to see how people are. My Mom and I were commenting how movies portray the city so well. The police officers, the firefighters, the store owners… they all fit the exact image of what we see on television. My Mom is from the Bronx… both of us couldn’t believe how “clean” New York City looked! It really has changed for the better.

It was a fun trip… we were happy to be home though.

We try to do so much in a week… it can be exhausting. Oh, and my parents fed me well… that is something I definitley miss! :)
