Truck Restrictions on St. Route 160 & 159
Friday, September 28th, 2007

This was one of my topics during my "What’s Driving You Crazy" segment Friday.  Someone wrote in and said a truck driver was ticketed for having an OVER LENGTH vehicle… the viewer was concerned because he says there are no signs posted.

I found out signs will be posted on State Route 159 around October 1st.  The other signs are being made in Reno right now.

Here’s a little background on the changes.

The changes took place on December 21, 2006.   NDOT does not allow over dimensional vehicle to travel on SR160 from SR159 to the Nye county line. Over dimensional vehicles are over 8′6" in width or over 70′ in length. NDOT issues these permits along with the restricted routes.

Also, trucks over 30 tons cannot use State Route 159.

Here’s the link with more information.

Coping with the U.S. 95 Widening Project!
Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I know, I know… it’s really…. really…. REALLY frustrating!  Everywhere you turn there’s a ramp closed or lanes closed on U.S. 95 between Rainbow and the Spaghetti Bowl.   Well, brace yourself… it’s only going to get worse over the next couple of months… this project is FINALLY coming to an end!

You heard it right… the highway will be finished by the end of November.

The problem right now is that the nights are too cool to pave.  The temperature has to be right for paving… and unfortunately… all the paving needs to be done before it can be open and functional.

This means all the paving must be done during the daylight hours.  You WILL run into ramp closures… and you WILL run into even more delays than usual.  Just expect it.  You might want to use the surface streets for a little while and add extra time to your commute.  Just think…. the highway will be 10 lanes wide and include car pool lanes! Ahhh… it will be nice.

NDOT’s Bob Mckenzie tells me there is no way to specifically predict lane closures, but they will try to keep three lanes open at all times.  The paving depends totally on the temperatures.

He will try to keep this site up to date as much as possible… feel free to check it out!

My Trip to New York State….
Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Whenever I go out of town, I love to write about my “travel” experiences!

So…. last week… I traveled home to see my family and friends in Rochester, NY.

I took Airtran… which now offers the first NON STOP flight from Las Vegas to Rochester! Wow, that was nice!!! It was a 3 hour and 40 minute flight! No stress… no hassle. And, it was only 109 dollars one way. I figured out how they are able to offer the low fares. The plane was nice… the staff was friendly… but they don’t have televisions or movie screens and no food is offered. They give you earphones and offer satellite radio which was nice. And, you do get complimentary drinks (soda, water, coffee, etc) and a little bag of pretzels… but that’s about it. So make sure to eat before you go or bring your own snack!

New Flyover, Kinda Cool
Friday, September 7th, 2007

A new flyover ramp opens Friday, September 7th on Las Vegas Blvd. South. Many people have wondered what this "strange looking ramp that looks like it leads to nowhere" is. Well, it is actually kinda cool. It will take drivers to the new Town Square and Fry’s Electronics!

When Town Square opens on November 14th, drivers traveling north on Las Vegas Boulevard will be able to take the flyover into Town Square… and once inside the center, the flyover will become a road that loops around the 1.5 million square foot lifestyle center. It’s actually the 5 million dollar ramp is the first flyover that takes drivers from a public street into a private development. Interesting!

Turnberry Associates and Centra Properties built the ramp.
