5 Graduates Die in My Hometown

Storyvertfairportcrash

It’s a story I have been following… one, because I take interest in traffic crashes since it’s what I cover for a living… two, because the girls who died were from my hometown… and three, because they were cheerleaders like I was in high school.   They lived a similar life.

Can you imagine? Five girls graduate high school one week… the next week they all die together in a crash?  The five graduates were heading to a lake house for the weekend.  On the way, they crashed into a tractor trailer truck, pretty much head on, and died.  The vehicle they were in also burst into flames.  By the way, their friends saw it happen… they were following behind in a seperate vehicle.  How tragic is this?! It makes me so upset.   The driver supposedly passed a vehicle and then for some reason overcorrected back into the oncoming traffic lane.  She was an inexperienced driver I’m sure… being so young.

What a wake up call for that town (Fairport, NY) and the surrounding area… and everyone who has watched or heard about this story.

I guess I blog today to just say …. drive safe… make sure your kids are prepared to drive… and always buckle up.

Here’s a link to a website that explains a little more about these girls… and what happened.
