Las Vegas Road Rage

Police say the shooting incident Tuesday morning started as a verbal argument between two drivers and then escalated into violence.

Road rage puts everyone on the road in danger and it’s a problem police are seeing happen more and more in the Las Vegas Valley.

What are you experiencing while driving around our beautiful valley?

There are alot of crazy people that drive in this town. I used to be one of them. I used to street race and then I got smart. That’s what the speedway and midnight mayhem was designed to prevent. Now I’m married and have a daughter, and the drivers in this town are crazy.

However, now you can post comments on drivers at http://www.platewire.com. It’s a great place to release your frustrations OFF the road.

Those dam motorcycle cops think they can drive between traffic lanes anytime they want. That screws up traffic, makes drivers angry, and they are getting away with it. Oh look out if you did that. The cops are the worst offenders in driving and causing road rage.

The residents of Las Vegas have been allowed to break the rules of the road for so long, is has become commonplace. It’s no help to our frustrations to watch other inconsiderate motorists (along with our own police vehicles) running red lights, speeding and weaving from one lane to another without any consideration to the rest of us. Europe has the right idea by placing cameras near the road to catch the law breakers. We need cameras to do this because the police can’t seem to get this problem under control.

I have never seen more knocked down light poles in my life. There are more solo accidents than I have ever seen. The people in this town drive like they are the only ones on the road and everyone else should just get out of their way. Rude drivers are what causes road rage and I’m surprised there are not more incidents of road rage in this town.

People need to slow down a bit and think about being more courteous on the roads.

Roadrage has become commonplace in the Las Vegas valley. I drive 20 miles to work each day and during rush hour traffic if there are any accidents on the freeway I find it very frustrating that people have no consideration for others. Numerous times I have stopped to allow others to enter my lane away from the accident only to be cussed by the driver behind me. Many times if is the other way around I find that many drivers will pull as close to the vehicle in front of them as they can thus not allowing anyone to enter thier lane.
I was always taught to be considerate of others, after all we are all trying to get home or to work and one more minute to allow consideration for others is NOT going to hurt anyone!

The people causing the problems in the valley are the people who either can’t read a speed limit sign or are so afraid to be behind the wheel that their top speed is 30mph. When I’m trying to get to work or home from work the last thing I want is to get behind some moron who doesn’t get that 45mph means just that. If you want to drive under the speed limit then get into the right hand lane and crawl for all I care. Just get out of my and everybody elses way who actually have lives and places they need to be. You people must spend half your life on the road just because you’re afraid to drive more than 30mph…..even on the freeway. It isn’t rocket science people! This is the only city I know where driving 10mph UNDER the speed limit is standard practice. It’s ridiculous!

A couple of you people are who we are referring to as road ragers. Ms Jane is pissed at the cops and thinks they cause road rage and Steve thinks everyone in the fast lane is going below the speed limit. I’ll bet the problem is that Steve is speeding and giving the finger to all the folks up ahead just doing the speed limit and Ms Jane keeps getting caught by the motor cops.

Travelling West Craig Road and I-15 is a nightmare especially in the afternoon between 4-5:30pm. People get in the far right TURN ONLY lane and then swerve over into the middle lane at the last minute to try and get around traffic. They also go through the traffic light on top of the overpass and sit there until the light turns red and block traffic trying to get onto Craig Road. The lights are not in sync either…the light turns green on the east side of the overpass but its red on the west side. Then the railroad crossing traffic light is red once you cross over I-15. Another BAD intersection is Craig Road and Durango. It’s a 4-way stop and people are constantly runnning the stop signs. They also double up by speeding up and following another car that has been sitting at the sign. There needs to be a traffic signal. There is one at Alexander and Durango and it helps traffice tremendously. I don’t even bother with I-15 or 95 unless its late at night or early on a Sunday morning. Vegas Driving is CRAZY….

What the Vegas metro area needs (as well as the rest of the country) is more reliable/efficient public transportation. In the meantime, we need more carpooling, vanpooling or whatever to reduce congestion on our roads (and save a little money). I know it’s Vegas and every other person drives a Hummer. Well, things need to change in order for it to get better.

Terry, it’s unbridled frustration of all kinds, including yours, that leads to road rage. You sound like part of the problem.
I just try to mind my own business and not let the jerks get to me. I drive defensively and legally. I don’t get into competition with other drivers. Thus, (1) I have never gotten a ticket, (2) I’ve never been in an accident, and (3) hopefully if I ever am in an accident it’s 90% likely it will be the other guy’s fault. BTW, I’ve been driving for 15 years in three different cities. Oh, and Terry, I do tend to drive 1-3 miles over the speed limit when the roads are clear, just to stay out of your way, but you’re probably still the one tail-gating me in the center lane. On the roadways are 2 million busy bees who don’t have a central command. It’s amazing to me that there aren’t MORE accidents.
Food for thought; if you’ve got a 15-mile trip, you save 3.5 minutes by averaging 55 mph instead of 45 mph. Is it worth it? It’s time you lose with stop lights, off-ramps, etc., anyway.

  11. Overwhelmed Officer Says:

    MsJane,

I am amazed and feel compelled to respond when someone voices such concerns in such an idiotic manner. Yes, your spelling, grammar and sentence structure are appalling, but your content is much more foolish. I’m sure you won’t read this, but I thought that I’d go ahead and not let your half-witted comment go unnoticed. Perhaps you would like officers to sit at a red lights for 2-3 minutes at a turn while someone is in your backyard, throwing rocks through your window, or putting graffiti on your garage door. None of these scenarios warrant an emergency response with lights and sirens, but if an officer can shave time off by splitting traffic (which, for officers, is permitted by state law), you should be grateful that they are willing to expeditiously help you, your family, or any of Las Vegas’ residents. Perhaps it’s premature to say this mentality is ruining police work and will ultimately result in martial law when there are no more willing applicants and the current work force dwindles down and/or retires, but I’ll go ahead and throw it out there. Thanks for your support.

I take a couple of older ladies shopping and other places. There is only one island on Sahara Ave between Lamb and Nellis and it is in front of their Apartment complex. They also ride the handcapped bus and it has to go out of its way to make a u-turn and come back.

Why would an island be in front of a complex?
