Two accidents recently resulted in the deaths of innocent people. Cars driving through a green light intersection… the people inside, not knowing what’s about to hit them.
One of the accidents was at Harmon & Koval… another at Craig and Rainbow. The one at Craig & Rainbow happened just about 15 minutes after the new year. The first fatal accident of 2007 in the valley. Police say the driver was drinking and drove through a red light. He crashed into another car and someone inside died.
The accident on Harmon and Koval resulted in the death of a passenger. A man sped away from police and ran a red light… he crashed into a car driving through a green light… and killed the passenger. He was also charged with felony DUI.
So… drinking and speeding both played a factor in these accidents. It’s very sad to me.
It makes you almost scared to drive. I constantly grab the handle of the car when I am a passenger (yes, I’m one of those). It’s not because I don’t trust the driver I am with, it’s because I don’t trust the people around me… and from reporting these two accidents recently, it makes sense to me. I don’t blame myself for being so paranoid anymore… you have to be alert and aware ALL THE TIME. That’s the bottom line.
I would never look straight ahead and drive through an intersection anymore. I always look all around me first. You probably should too. Actually, that was one of the first tips I got from Las Veags drivers when I moved here. Now, I stick to it!
Metro Police reported more than 150 fatal accidents this year. And that doesn’t include the Nevada Highway Patrol, North Las Vegas Police, or Henderson. The numbers are just too way too high.
Here’s a link to a report our Ashanti Blaize recently did… it’s quite an eye opener.
Besides the fatal accidents…. think about all the people that were injured. How devastating for them and their families.
Have a safe 2007!
