Don’t you love that name? My colleague Charlotte Evans told me about it.
Vanity plates are the personalized license plates that, it seems like, ninety percent of Southern Nevadans have.
We were talking about how unique it is.
I’m from Upstate New York. Hardly anyone has a Vanity Plate there. We all just had numbers and letters that never added up to anything. But when you did see one.. boy, was it exciting. You usually chuckled as you tried to figure it out.
So when I moved here I was surprised to see so many.
Charlotte says she often notices the same Vanity Plates on the road with her every day as she comes to work. She says it’s almost like you want to stop and introduce yourself.
Some of the good ones we’ve noticed recently:
ONLY1K ( A plate that was clearly not on a luxury vehicle, but the owner can be proud that unlike most of us, their car is probably paid for!)
YH8T ( In other words, Why Hate?)
If you have seen a unique plate out there… let me know.. drop me a comment
Charlotte says she thinks the reason personalizing is so popular here is because people come from all walks of life. Many people don’t have an "idenity" - and this is a way to find one or express your character. She thinks maybe it’s a way to help newcomers feel more like a "Nevadan." I agree.
There is a fee though… it’s not free. But for many, having character, is worth the price.
If you wanna join the "in" crowd…
