A couple last seen Jan. 26 were found Wednesday by a county road worker near a canyon in southwestern Utah.

Thomas and Tamitha Garner were with their truck about 60 miles west of Cedar City by a county worker who was plowing the road, Iron County Sheriff Mark Gower told The Salt Lake Tribune.

The Kearns couple had gone on a weekend trip to photograph wild horses on Jan. 24. They were last seen two days later in Nevada. Search and rescue crews had been searching a vast area for any sign of the couple.

Gower says they were stranded, but stayed with their vehicle and survived the ordeal.

The northern Utah couple was last seen leaving Panaca, Nevada on Saturday. Police are still treating this as a missing persons case.

The pair were exploring the area in search of wild horses.

Members of the Nevada, Utah and Colorado Civil Air Patrol searched the area around S.R. 319 on Thursday. Authorities employed several ground searchers, 3 Civil Air Patrol planes and a Nevada Air National Guard helicopter.

On a tip, authorities searched an area called two kilns, located north of S.R. 319 about 10 miles west of the Utah/Nevada border.

They found no sign of the couple.

The Garners were last seen driving a grey, 1999 Dodge Dakota truck with Utah plate, #793URF. The truck has a scorpion sticker in the back window. They may have a chocolate colored dog with them.

Sheriff Kerry Lee said there has not been any cell phones activity or credit card use since the couple went missing.

In a statement, the family thanked their friends, family, police and volunteer searchers:

We cannot thank you enough for your strength, support, shoulders to cry on and advice. We would ask that you all circulate this to everyone you know. Even if they cannot help, they may send it along a path that helps us bring our loved ones home.

Pray for Tom and Tamitha to come home!!! Please, always leave an itinerary when you plan a road trip!!!

Policy say DNA evidence has now linked her case to two other attacks late last year on women in the same neighborhood near the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno.

In addition, they say they’re investigating another 2007 case that could be related. That one involves the alleged rape of a woman who came forward for the first time yesterday to say she was assaulted at gunpoint in October in a parking garage just south of the Lawlor Events Center.

Police have released a composite sketch of a suspected rapist in the previously unreported attack. Commander Ron Holladay says it is by no means a perfect match but that it is “not inconsistent” with the descriptions in the other three cases.

Holladay says the developments stem from an “exponential increase” in information flowing into police tip lines since investigators released a description on Monday of a suspect in a December kidnapping and sexual assault.

Police already had linked the December case to the suspected abduction of the 19-year-old Denison, who last was seen on January 20th. They now also have additional DNA evidence to tie those to a separate attack in November.

The latest woman described him as 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 white male with light brown or dirty blond hair. He had a slender to medium build and was wearing a dark-hooded pullover sweat shirt, athletic-type nylon sweat pants with black stripes and white tennis shoes.

The woman described the weapon as a black and silver handgun, the first time police have reported the use of a gun in any of the attacks.

Police aren’t releasing any details on the DNA matchups, but Holladay said the evidence collected at the scene of the November attack included unopened packages of condoms.

The Trojan brand, lubricated, “very sensitive” condoms are wrapped in a purple package. Holladay says they are “fairly unique” because they first were put into circulation in October or November of last year.

With no suspects and little evidence, police asked the public for patience as they investigate the suspected kidnapping of a young Reno woman and appealed to friends and neighbors again Friday to offer up even the most “inconsequential” information they may have about her mysterious disappearance six days ago.

Crime lab technicians have yet to determine whether a stain on a pillow at the suspected crime scene is the blood of Brianna Denison, Reno police spokesman Steve Frady said Friday.

The 19-year-old college student hasn’t been seen since about 4 a.m. on Sunday when she went to sleep on a couch at the home of a friend a few blocks from the University of Nevada, Reno, campus, about a half-mile from the downtown casino district.

“We suspect it is blood,” Reno police commander Ron Holladay said. “We are in the process of determining if it is Brianna’s blood. It could be somebody else’s blood… We’re hopeful that will help us a little bit.”

Denison, a freshman at Santa Barbara City College who graduated from Reno High School last spring, was staying with friends who reported her missing about 9 a.m. because her cell phone, purse, shoes and other personal items were left behind.

“At this point in time we do not have anything that points to a specific suspect,” Holladay said. He told a crowd of about 150 people who gathered for an update on the probe at the UNR student union Thursday night that people must be wondering why they haven’t made the kind of progress fictitious detectives do on the “CSI” television series.

“Everything gets solved in 60 minutes or less on CSI. That is not reality for us,” Holladay said. “We have obtained some evidence from the house. But forensic testing … is something that takes awhile, so you have to be a little patient with us.”

About 300 people attended a candlelight vigil at her old school Thursday night in support of her family and law officers trying to find her.

In an appearance Friday on CBS’s “The Early Show,” Denison’s 15-year-old brother, Brighton, and cousin, Ashley Zunino, said they’re holding out hope for her safe return.

“We’re really doing everything we can and just trying to stay positive and hope that the best will come out,” Brighton Denison said. “I’m not sure where she is, but wherever she is, I just hope that she is OK and that we’re going to get her back.”

Zunino said her missing cousin “sounded really great” when she last talked to her on Wednesday.

“She was really happy to be with her mom … she sounded really good,” Zunino said. “She’s not that kind of person — she doesn’t just disappear. Someone always knows where she is.

“(Police are) doing everything they can and they’re working around the clock really hard on the case to find her,” she added.

The family has hired two private investigators and also was seeking psychics, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

“We’re not going to rule out any options,” said Lauren Denison, the missing student’s aunt.

Police with search dogs have canvassed the neighborhood daily. They expanded the effort Thursday to nearby foothills where they’d not looked before and encouraged residents at the evening forum to continue to come forward with any information that might help find her.

“It is really the little things that may seem inconsequential to you at the time — a person walking in the neighborhood who doesn’t belong. A person who hangs out that doesn’t go into a residence. A person watching you when you go out.”

Police have ruled out as suspects Denison’s boyfriend, who reportedly sent her text messages from Oregon in the hours before her disappearance, as well as a man who gave her friend a ride to the home from a Reno casino that early morning.

Holladay said there did not appear to be “any similarities” between the facts surrounding her disappearance and two unsolved cases of sexual attacks on women in the neighborhood in November and December.

Police said they were in the process of interviewing 93 registered sex offenders who live within a mile of the Reno home where Denison last was seen. Holladay said only one of those was a “Tier 3″ offender — the most likely to be a threat — and that he had been contacted and ruled out as a suspect.

With few leads and little evidence, frustration is mounting in the search for Brianna Denison four days after the 19-year-old college student mysteriously vanished from Reno.

Police questioned a man who gave a ride home to Denison’s friend the night Denison disappeared from the home near the UNR campus.

But investigators said today he is not a suspect in the apparent abduction.

UNR Police Chief Adam Garcia says at this point, they don’t have any credible leads. He told a Reno radio station tonight, that, in his words:

“Basically, Brianna has disappeared. She has fallen off the face of the Earth.”

Denison was last seen at 4 a.m. Sunday. Police said she was sleeping on a couch near an unlocked glass door after a night of partying. When her friends awoke later that morning, she was gone — but her clothes, purse and cell phone were left behind.

Police with search dogs have canvassed the neighborhood a half-mile north of the downtown casino district since Monday but have found no sign of the young woman, no footprints, no tire tracks that would aid in the investigation.

Reno police commander Ron Holladay says abductions by strangers are extremely rare anywhere, and even rarer in Reno. He says it’s very frustrating to have absolutely no clues, no evidence, no witnesses.

The man was interviewed because he had given a ride home to Brianna Denison’s friend the night Denison mysteriously vanished, police said.

“We have spoken with the person who was driving the Suburban that we were looking for originally and he is not involved in the case,” Ron Holladay, a Reno police commander, said Wednesday in an interview with CBS’ “Early Show.”

Denison was last seen at 4 a.m. Sunday. Police said she was sleeping on a couch near an unlocked glass door after a night of partying. When her friends awoke later that morning, she was gone — but her clothes, purse and cell phone were left behind.

Authorities have classified Denison’s disappearance as a possible abduction.

“All the indicators are that Brianna has been abducted,” Holladay said.

“It is our sincere hope that she’ll come walking in the door any minute, but the longer it goes, the less the chances are of that occurring.”

Two of her friends, Jessica Deal and K.T. Hunter, said they started making breakfast Sunday morning when they realized Denison’s personal items were still there.

“We started piecing together later that hour that everything was still there,” Deal said. “There is no way she left voluntarily.”

Hunter agreed.

“Brianna was one of the most cautious and responsible friends I had,” she told CBS. “She would never go anywhere without her phone and … every time she went out she was always calling her mom.

“No, this is not in her character at all. She would never run away.”

Investigators with search dogs canvassed neighborhoods looking for clues to Denison’s whereabouts, but found nothing.

“We have not discovered any shoe prints, anything that might lead us to a direction that a suspect may have taken her,” Holladay said. “We have done extensive searches both with canines and also on foot and door to door, under houses, backyards, things like that and have turned up no clues.”

Detectives were awaiting test results on whether a silver dollar-sized stain on the pillow Denison was using is blood.

Denison, who grew up in Reno, is a student at Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, Calif. Friends and family say she was at home over the winter break and had planned to return to school this week.

In the hours before her disappearance, Denison had been party-hopping at venues associated with a weekend snowboarding event, police have said.

“I just hope that whoever did this is listening and knows what a great person she is and she doesn’t deserve this at all,” Hunter told a Reno television station Tuesday night.

“Hopefully whoever did this sees how hurt everyone is over it, might even feel an inkling of that and return Brianna.”

The FBI has joined the effort to find a college student believed to have been kidnapped from Reno.

19-year-old Brianna Denison was last seen around 4 a.m. Sunday, when she fell asleep on her friend’s couch after a night of partying.

Police say drops of blood were found where she was sleeping and the door to the home was unlocked.

Denison was last seen around 4 a.m. Sunday. A family member says Denison had been out with friends, and went to a friend’s house to sleep on the sofa. A few hours later, Brianna had vanished.

Brianna’s aunt says Brianna’s cell phone and purse were left behind at the friend’s house. That house is near Mackay and College, not far from the UNR campus.

Police say they found a string of text messages on her cell phone between Denison and her boyfriend that lead them to believe they were breaking up.

Denison’s aunt says she believes her niece may have known who took her. “What scares me is, like the dog not barking. Did he know that person that came in? Did they sleep through a dog barking? Why did Brianna not scream?” said Rena Denison.

Brianna is a student at Santa Barbara College. She has family in Reno.

She is five feet tall, 98 lbs, has long dark hair and blue eyes. She may have been wearing light blue or pink sweat pants and a white tank top. Police also say a brown stuffed bear is missing from the home. It is believed to be in the possession of Brianna Denison.

Police are also looking for the driver of a beige or light brown Chevrolet or GMC suburban. The driver is reported to be a white male, about 45-years-old, possibly of Latin descent, medium height and weight and well dressed.

The man picked up a friend of Denison’s and drove her to the address where Denison went missing. The vehicle was seen leaving the Sand’s Regency Hotel Casino parking lot on a surveillance camera.

The man is not believed to be a suspect, but may have information relative in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Reno Police at (775) 334-2115.
