Las Vegas City Council honored hundreds of members of the Sun City Summerlin Security Patrol as September's citizens of the month.
David Steinman used to be the chief of the 230 member patrol and said that for a community of 13-thousand residents, they have a surprisingly low crime rate.
“I believe we have at or near the lowest crime rate in this county for a community of this size,” Steinman said.
The patrol began in 1991 with less than 20 members, all of whom were, and still are volunteers.
The patrol is active in the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to keep the neighborhood safe by checking on residents and their homes.
The patrol says there is no doubt that their efforts have paid off in the community.
