A group of wounded soldiers and sailors are getting the star treatment in Las Vegas for the next few days.

The men and their spouses arrived from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. The wounded servicemen will spend the next couple of days at the Venetian, with access to all the restaurants, shows and pools.

Patricia Driscoll with the Armed Forces Foundation says it's a once in a lifetime experience that means the world to the men, “It's overwhelming and it's heartwarming to know that America really cares about you, especially seven years after the war's been going on. It's amazing for them because they think that they're starting to be forgotten.”

The special weekend getaway was paid for by Venetian owner Sheldon Adelson and the Armed Forces Foundation.

  1. As a Mother of a Navy Seebee, who served six months in Afghanistan. I want to personally thank the Adelson’s for what they are doing for our soldiers.
Although my son was protected by God’s hand and was not physically wounded, he is now being treated for depression. I do not know what he experienced there, but I do know he has a heavier heart since coming home.
My husband and I watched Sunday Morning, 11/09/08 on CBS, about the story of our wounded soldiers being treated to an extraordinary Las Vegas vacation by the Adlesons. We wept seeing some of the faces of our men and women who paid a huge price for our freedom. And the generosity of their hosts.
On this Veterans day, I want again, thank Mr. and Mrs. Adelson for their wonderful gift to some of our most precious citizens.
Thank you and may God continue to Bless you.
