A Las Vegas man and woman will stand trial for the death of a 4-year old boy. Police say the child’s death was staged to look like an accident.
Trevor Carter initially told police that his girlfriend’s 4-year-son, Trenton Quick, died in a car accident in the desert in North Las Vegas.
Carter and his girlfriend cried throughout the preliminary hearing. In December 2007, Carter called in to report a car accident. Later, police say, he changed his story to say the boy had fallen off a bunk bed and received fatal injuries. Carter says he was scared so he made up the accident story.
The coroner ruled the death a homicide consistent with the little boy being punched in the stomach. On the stand, the coroner who performed the autopsy, said it’s possible falling off a bunk bed could cause a similar fatal injury but some of the bruising found on the boy’s body was very rare.
