The mother accused of neglecting and abusing her 4-year-old son was in court for a bail hearing Friday morning.

A North Las Vegas judge set Amber Scott's bail at $40,000 and denied bail for her boyfriend, 21-year-old Trevor Carter, who is charged with first degree murder. Police believe Carter staged a car accident to cover up the real cause of 4-year-old Trenton Quick's death.

The coronor reports that the child died from blunt force trauma to his abdomen as a result of abuse.

Police found Carter's car in the desert on Tuesday and Trenton was dead at the scene. Carter told police that the boy had died in an off-road accident but police became suspicious when the story didn't add up.
