On the afternoon of May 17, Metro dispatch got several calls from a house saying a man had a handgun and was threatening to kill the caller. Officers arrived and found several people standing around the house.

One of the individuals told officers the man with the gun was inside of the garage of the residence. Officers then heard a gunshot, and broadcast on the radio that a shot had been fired. They then observed a man, later identified as 31-year-old Christopher Tuttle, with a gun through the open garage.

Why list officer involved shootings?

Officers repeatedly told the Tuttle to drop his gun and surrender, but he refused. Police say he then pointed the gun directly at the officers. Two officers fired at Tuttle, hitting him. He was transported to the UMC Trauma Center where he later died.

The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a coroner’s inquest.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Metro Police received a call from a man saying there was a shooting at a house on Rancho Santa Fe avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 57-year-old Sharon Randolph inside the house, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. There was also a man, later identified as 38-year-old Michael Miller, who was deceased in the garage of the residence, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and have preliminarily determined that the residents of the house, a husband and wife, had left their home for the evening and when they returned, they interrupted Miller who was burglarizing the residence.

The suspect shot and killed Randolph and then became involved in a confrontation with the husband. During the struggle, the husband shot and killed Miller.

The husband and wife knew the Miller as a handyman who did odd jobs around their home. Detectives are continuing their investigation.

UPDATE

Thomas Randolph, husband of Sharon Randolph, has been arrested and charged with the deaths of both Sharon and Michael Miller. Police say Randolph hired Miller to kill his wife, and then killed Miller.

The shooting happened late Friday night near Torrey Pines and Charleston at about 10 p.m.

Police say they received numerous 911 calls reporting shots being fired. When officers arrived, they discovered a black male, later identified as 26-year-old Bobby Guss, who had died from several gun shot wounds.

Three others people, a 16-year-old juvenile, 17-year-old juvenile and a 20-year-old adult were also shot. They were transported to UMC with moderate injuries.

Homicide detectives were called and began the investigation. They found that the victims were in an alley when they were approached by two men. One of the men, described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5′9″, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, pulled out a handgun and began firing at the group.

The two men then left on foot and were seen leaving the area in a 1990’s Chevy Silverado extended cab truck, described as brown or copper color with a light colored center strip.

Police ask anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers.
