A police report says a man arrested in the fatal shooting of his mother told police her death was an accident.

The arrest report says 19-year-old Mitchell Lavender was inside his North Las Vegas home December 16, 2009 when police arrived.

Police found the man’s mother, 52-year-old Michele Lavender, in the living room with a gunshot wound to the chest. She later died at University Medical Center.

The report says Mitchell Lavender told detectives he had been suicidal after a breakup and learning his father had cancer.

The report says he told police he took a gun and went to the backyard but changed his mind. He then went inside the house and his mother asked him to give her the gun.

He told police he handed her the weapon and it went off. He said he didn’t know how it discharged.

Officer Trevor Nettleton

Thirty-year-old Trevor Nettleton was shot and killed while working in his garage on the night of November 19, 2009. Nettleton was an officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and had just returned home after finishing his shift.

Police say Nettleton was ambushed by 18-year-old Prentice Marshall and 20-year-old Saul Williams. According to officers, the pair tried to rob Nettleton, but he fought back. Nettleton shot Marshall in the groin area before being shot in the torso. He died in his home.

Police have arrested a total of six people in this murder. Police believe the crime was random.

Nettleton leaves behind a wife and two children.

North Las Vegas police are looking for the person who shot 19-year-old Julian Roman.

Police say the suspect knocked on Roman’s door. When he answered the door, he was shot. Roman was taken to University Medical Center and died the next day.

North Las Vegas Police are investigating the shooting death of 38-year-old Maria Herrera.

Police say they were called to a home on Rancho Domingo Court to investigate a domestic violence call. As officers arrived, they heard gunshots. They entered the home and found the body of Herrera and a man suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The man was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. His status is unknown. Police say the two may have been dating, but the man was not from Las Vegas.

Police also found an unharmed 16-year-old at the house and questioned him about the shooting. No other details have been released.

North Las Vegas Police say 65-year-old Yoneko Bailey was murdered on August 11, 2009.

Police were called Bailey’s apartment when a relative found her unresponsive. She was dead when officers arrived.

“She had been killed inside the home. There were obvious signs of injuries to her — serious trauma,” said North Las Vegas Police Sgt. Tim Bedwell.

Police arrested 62-year-old Melvin Bailey charging him with murder. The Clark County Coroner ruled that Bailey died from a stab wound to the chest.

“This is an incident that happened inside a home between two people and it was domestic related,” said Bedwell.

9-year-old Savannah Bullins was visiting her father in North Las Vegas when she was shot and killed.

Police say a gunman fired into her apartment near Cheyenne and Civic Center and a bullet struck her in the back. She was transported to University Medical Center where she later died.

Police say Marcus Larry and Kenneth Reid are responsible for the girl’s murder. Both have been arrested and charged with murder.

19-year-old Brandon Manor was found shot to death at the Cheyenne Villas Apartments in North Las Vegas.

Police arrived at the scene and found Manor lying in the parking lot dead from gunshot wounds. Police say he was shot during a disturbance.

Las Vegas Metro Police are investigating the shooting death of 44-year-old Tryone Nelon.

Police say Nelon was arguing with another man on Jackson Avenue,  near Owens and H Street when he was shot in the head. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

No other details have been released.

Around midnight on April 18, 2009, North Las Vegas Police Department got a call of shots fired in the 3900 block of Yellow Mandarin Court.

When Officers arrived, they found 44-year-old Darryl Pickens dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. They also found 33-year-old Levin Wright in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. Wright was transported to UMC Trauma where he later died.

No other information has been released.

On the morning of April 2, 2009, North Las Vegas Police Detectives responded to a homicide at the North Las Vegas Detention Center.

Police say during a routine cell count, corrections officers discovered that 31-year-old Sergio Morales-Paredes was missing. Officers began looking for Morales-Paredes and found him under a mattress in his cell bleeding from the face and not breathing. Officers called for medical attention, but Morales-Paredes had already died.

Detectives booked 25-year-old Armando Munoz-Ornelas for one count of murder. Munoz-Ornelas was sharing a cell with Morales-Paredes at the time of the incident.
