October 12, 2008 – Charleston and 17th

In the early morning hours of October 12, Metro Officers responded to a business near Charleston and 17th after getting 911 calls of a man shot. When Police and EMT’s arrived, they found 22-year-old Hermindo Casillas, Jr. suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to UMC where he later died.

Casillas was with family members when he was approached by three Hispanic men. The men shot Casillas and then fled north on 17th to Lewis where they were picked up by a dark colored vehicle, possibly an SUV, which continued west on Lewis.

The motive for this shooting is not yet known.

October 8, 2008 – 200 Block of Hinkle

On the afternoon of October 8, Metro patrol officers responded to a 911 call of a person being stabbed. When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Richard Martinez suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to UMC where he later died.

Homicide detectives were called to conduct a follow-up investigation. Detectives learned that Martinez and the suspect, later identified as 16-year-old Steven Hogue, were involved in an argument when Steven pulled out a knife and stabbed Martinez several times.

An arrest warrant for murder with a deadly weapon was issued for Hogue.

Hogue surrendered at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Plaza Desk on October 9, 2008. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

October 8, 2008 – 6300 block of Haleh Avenue

Monday, October 13th, 2008

On the morning of October 8, 61-year-old Raymarie Brown called 911 asking for help, saying she had been stabbed. Metro Officers responded to the scene and found her deceased inside a home. She had been stabbed multiple times.

Homicide detectives responded and the investigation lead to the arrest of the victim’s 27-year-old son, Garrick Brown, who lived with at the house with his mother. Brown arrested for murder with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bail in the Clark County Detention Center.

October 2, 2008 – 4000 block of Hidden Oasis Court

Monday, October 13th, 2008

On the night of October 2, Metro Officers responded to a call of a woman shot on Hidden Oasis Court. When they arrived, they found 43-year-old Gloria Tapia shot in the chest. She was transported to UMC where she died a short time later.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and discovered Tapia was outside at her house with family, celebrating her twenty year anniversary as an employee at a local casino. During the party, a single gunshot was heard and family members realized Tapia had been shot.

There is no suspect description and only a description of a small silver compact vehicle seen leaving the area. There is no motive and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
