July 24, 2008 – 4900 Block of West Moberly

On the night of July 24, Metro Police received a 911 call from a woman reporting that a man had been shot inside her home. Officers responded to the house and found 31-year-old Bernard Williams dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

An investigation by Metro Homicide Detectives revealed that three men, one armed with a handgun and one armed with a knife, entered the home and demanded drugs and money from the occupants. Witnesses said the suspects believed drugs were being sold at the residence.

After receiving an unknown amount of money, one of the suspects shot Williams in the head and then left the scene. No vehicle was seen.

July 19, 2008 – Owens and Civic Center

On the night of July 19, North Las Vegas Police got a call of a man shot near Owens and Civic Center.

Witnesses say 25-year-old Orlando Basurto-Carranza was waving at a car and yelling for the driver to slow down. Police say someone in the car pulled out a gun and started shooting. The car then sped off.

July 18, 2008 – 800 Block of Blandensburg

On the morning of July 18, police got a 911 call from a woman saying a man had shot her boyfriend inside their home. Metro Officers responded to the scene and found 18-year-old David Manriquez dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Homicide Detectives were called and were able to identify the suspect in the murder as 17-year-old Jonathan Romero. Police believe Manriquez is the new boyfriend of Romero’s ex-girlfriend.

July 16, 2008 – 6600 Block of Sky Pointe Drive

On the morning of July 16, Metro Officers responded to the Guru Xpress Mini Mart to investigate a report that an employee had been shot. Arriving officers found 29-year-old Narinder Singh shot multiple times in the store’s office.

The investigation has determined the suspect is a former employee named Vicente Alvinez. Alvinez had been fired from the store the night before.

Alvinez fled the scene in a white 1987 Mazda RX7, with NV license plates 220-VJV.

Police are still investigating.

July 12, 2008 – 1200 South Torrey Pines

In the early morning hours of July 12, Metro Officers responded to 1200 S. Torrey Pines after getting calls of a fight in an apartment.

Upon officers arrived, they found one person inside the apartment deceased from unknown types of injuries. Officers also found a second person who had serious injuries and was transported to UMC where he underwent treatment for his injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the fight was between the two people found inside the apartment. Detectives interviewed witnesses and processed the crime scene for further evidence.

No other details have been released.

Cold Case – Mario Stein

homicide_stein.jpgOn the morning of May 29, 2003, Metro received a 911 call asking police to check the welfare of Mario Stein.

When officers arrived at his apartment, the door was locked. Officers got a key and entered the residence where they discovered the deceased body of Stein. Mr. Stein was lying on the bedroom floor covered with clothing and bedding.

The autopsy report says 28-year-old Stein had been stabbed at least 40 times. There were no signs of forced entry into his apartment.

Cold Case – Ellen Bjurstrom

homicide_bjurstrom.jpgOn March 13, 1997, Ellen Bjurstrom was found unresponsive in her bed at the old Moulin Rouge Hotel by a friend. The friend ran to the manager’s office where emergency medical personnel and police where called. Patrol officers determined that Bjurstrom was dead.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene. Neighbors reported loud noises coming from the room the night prior.

The results of the autopsy revealed Wendy had died from strangulation. The person responsible for Ellen’s murder are still unknown.

July 8, 2008 – 700 Block of North Nellis

liquor_robbery_victim_180.jpgOn the night of July 8, Metro Officers responded to the Liquor Outlet on North Nellis after reports that the clerk was dead inside. When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Paul Stitt deceased behind the cash register with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Homicide investigators were called to the scene for follow-up investigation. Detectives pulled the store’s surveillance video and found that the crime had been captured on tape.

The suspects are described as African-American men, about 20-years-old, 5′10″ to 6′ in height, weighing 160 to 180 pounds.

Both were wearing dark colored hats with flat brims. One possibly had a C on the front, similar to the Chicago Bears NFL logo. The other possibly had a D, similar to the Detroit Tigers MLB logo on the front. Both suspects were also wearing oversized white shirts and dark pants.

An unknown amount of money was taken.

July 2, 2008 – 6700 Block of Mangrum Circle

On the afternoon of July 2, Metro Police responded to reports that a female was deceased inside of a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Sherryl Guevarra-Sacueza deceased in the back seat of an SUV.

Officers say she was suffering from blunt force trauma to the head.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene. Detectives have determined that the suspect, 32-year-old Jesus Roberto Munguia, and the victim were last seen leaving the house at approximately 3 a.m. Family members did not see the victim again until the her body was found later in the day.

Detectives believe this murder was a result of domestic violence.  

Jesus Munguia was known to be driving a white, 1990’s Honda Civic. That vehicle was found in the area of Stocker and Tonopah. Munguia is not in custody and is to be considered dangerous.

June 29, 2008 – Unknown Location

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Police are investigating the stabbing death of 17-year-old Jared Thompson.

Thompson died after being transported to UMC Trauma.

No other details have been released.
