May 17, 2008 – 6200 Block of Chinook Way
On the afternoon of May 17, Metro dispatch got several calls from a house saying a man had a handgun and was threatening to kill the caller. Officers arrived and found several people standing around the house.
One of the individuals told officers the man with the gun was inside of the garage of the residence. Officers then heard a gunshot, and broadcast on the radio that a shot had been fired. They then observed a man, later identified as 31-year-old Christopher Tuttle, with a gun through the open garage.
Why list officer involved shootings?
Officers repeatedly told the Tuttle to drop his gun and surrender, but he refused. Police say he then pointed the gun directly at the officers. Two officers fired at Tuttle, hitting him. He was transported to the UMC Trauma Center where he later died.
The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a coroner’s inquest.
