May 28, 2008 – Lee Canyon Road

On May 28, 2008, 52-year-old Maria Elaina Marino’s body was found in a ravine just off the road leading to Lee Canyon.

The Clark County Coroner says she was strangled to death.

Police don’t have any suspects and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

May 8, 2008 – Infant Murdered, Father Arrested and Charged

hill_issac_180.jpgA local man wanted in connection with the death of his five-month-old daughter was arrested early Tuesday afternoon in Reno, following an intense, multi-jurisdictional manhunt.

On May 5 , Issac Hill’s five-month-old daughter was transported to the hospital, in what police say was extreme medical distress. She died from her injuries on May 8th, 2008.

An investigation by Metro’s Crimes Against Youth and Family Bureau found the victim had been left with her father earlier that day. During that time, she suffered injuries police say are consistent with child abuse. Officers issued an arrest warrant charging Hill with one count of murder by child abuse.

He was arrested by Reno Police and the FBI.

May 21, 2008 – 4600 Block of Boulder Highway

patricia-fuchs-5-08.jpgOn May 21, 2008 a man called 911 and reported his girlfriend had been attacked inside their apartment and may be dead. Police Officers and ambulance technicians responded to the scene and found 51-year-old Patricia Fuchs deceased inside the apartment.

The investigation revealed that Fuchs was alone inside her apartment for several hours on the morning of the 21st. Her boyfriend returned home from a job interview and discovered her on the floor of their apartment. Police do not have any suspects in the case and say the investigation is continuing.

May 17, 2008 – 3600 Block of Kolendo Court

Monday, May 19th, 2008

On the night of May 17, Metro Police responded to Kolendo Court after getting calls of several shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found three men suffering from multiple gunshots wounds.

Two of the victims were transported to UMC. One of the men, 25-year-old Jose Gurrero, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim was treated and released and a third victim was transported to Spring Valley hospital with minor injuries.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and determined that the victims were hanging out near a vehicle on Kolendo court, when a black Honda turned onto the street and passed them.

The suspect vehicle made a u-turn and headed towards the victims. At least one of passengers began yelling gang slang towards the victims. The occupants of the vehicle then opened fire at the
victims, striking all three.

The vehicle then fled the area in an unknown direction. The suspect vehicle is described as a black Honda Accord with tinted windows and a white bumper.

May 17, 2008 – 6200 Block of Chinook Way

On the afternoon of May 17, Metro dispatch got several calls from a house saying a man had a handgun and was threatening to kill the caller. Officers arrived and found several people standing around the house.

One of the individuals told officers the man with the gun was inside of the garage of the residence. Officers then heard a gunshot, and broadcast on the radio that a shot had been fired. They then observed a man, later identified as 31-year-old Christopher Tuttle, with a gun through the open garage.

Why list officer involved shootings?

Officers repeatedly told the Tuttle to drop his gun and surrender, but he refused. Police say he then pointed the gun directly at the officers. Two officers fired at Tuttle, hitting him. He was transported to the UMC Trauma Center where he later died.

The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a coroner’s inquest.

May 11, 2008 – 3800 Block of Las Vegas Blvd.

Monday, May 12th, 2008

On the night of May 11, Metro dispatch got a call from a security officer at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino reporting that an infant had been found in a trash can by a hotel cleaning crew.

Police Officers and medical personnel went to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of a recently born male infant, wrapped in a hotel gift bag and a pillow case. The infant had been left in a trash can inside a public restroom.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate. The body had been wrapped and placed into a trash can inside a woman’s restroom located near the elevators to Guest Tower One. An employee noticed the package in the trash and asked for assistance from security officers.

Police say it is likely that someone gave birth to this infant at another location shortly before the baby was found.

May 8, 2008 – 6500 Block of Rancho Santa Fe

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Metro Police received a call from a man saying there was a shooting at a house on Rancho Santa Fe avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 57-year-old Sharon Randolph inside the house, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. There was also a man, later identified as 38-year-old Michael Miller, who was deceased in the garage of the residence, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and have preliminarily determined that the residents of the house, a husband and wife, had left their home for the evening and when they returned, they interrupted Miller who was burglarizing the residence.

The suspect shot and killed Randolph and then became involved in a confrontation with the husband. During the struggle, the husband shot and killed Miller.

The husband and wife knew the Miller as a handyman who did odd jobs around their home. Detectives are continuing their investigation.

UPDATE

Thomas Randolph, husband of Sharon Randolph, has been arrested and charged with the deaths of both Sharon and Michael Miller. Police say Randolph hired Miller to kill his wife, and then killed Miller.

Police are investigating the shooting death of 45-year-old Santos Mercado-Mercado. Mercado died at UMC.

No other details have been released.

April 21, 2008 – 500 Block of Wardelle

Police are investigating the shooting death of 29-year-old Josue Bautista. Bautista died at the scene of the crime. Police believe his death may be gang related.

May 6, 2008 – Sunset and Eastern

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

On the evening of May 6, 2008, Metro Police responded to reports of a man down in the eastbound lanes of Sunset, just east of Eastern.

When officers arrived they found 44-year-old Jack Strosnider deceased from apparent multiple stab wounds. As a result, homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.

Detectives learned that Strosnider was seen being chased through Sunset Park by two Hispanic men. Witnesses say the suspects caught up with him near the tennis courts and began beating him. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.

Strosnider was seen getting up and running into traffic on Sunset, where he collapsed and died.
