March 29, 2008 - 4200 Block of East Craig

keyframe24.jpgOn Saturday March 29 at about 8:00 a.m., North Las Vegas Police officers were called to the Juke Joint bar after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two victims inside a vehicle suffering from gun shot wounds in the rear parking lot of the bar.

The male driver, later identified as Anthony Wight, was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger was taken to UMC in extremely critical condition.

Metro Police officers were in the area at the time of the shooting and caught the suspect, Charles Garner III, walking on a street one block west from the shooting scene. He was arrested for murder and attempt murder.

Homicide Detectives are still investigating this incident.

 
March 28, 2008 - 100 Block of North Nellis
Monday, March 31st, 2008

keyframe17.jpgOn March 28, 2008 at about 8:20 p.m., Metro dispatch received a 911 call reporting a female who was shot in her car at Charleston and Nellis. Patrol officers responded and found 39-year-old Blanca Gonzalez with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to UMC Trauma where she later died.

Detectives responded to the scene. The investigation determined that Gonzalez and her 2 children,
ages 11 and 15, were stopped at a red light on Nellis at Charleston. A light colored, mid 90’s Buick four door sedan was also stopped next to the victims’ vehicle, waiting to turn on to Charleston. The Buick was occupied by two black males in the front, two black males in the rear and a black female inbetween the two males in the back.

One of the males in the Buick fired a handgun, breaking out a passenger side window of the Buick, with the bullet striking Gonzalez. The Buick quickly made a u-turn and was last seen heading south on Nellis.

The victim’s vehicle then rolled into the intersection and struck a truck turning east on Charleston. The driver of the truck was not injured.

An arrest has been made in this case. Metro arrested 20-year-old Calvin Kirklin after a citizen recognized the car Kirklin was in as being the one that police had released information on to the public.

March 21, 2008 - 100 Block of Crooked Putter Drive
Monday, March 24th, 2008

On March 21st, a citizen reported that a woman had been murdered inside a house on Crooked Putter Drive in southwest Las Vegas. Metro patrol officers responded and found a female dead inside the home.

Homicide detectives were called and discovered that the female, later identified as 36-year-old Amy Marie Trujillo, had been shot.

The investigation identified another occupant of the house, 29-year-old Joehl David Jackowski, as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested on March 22, 2008 for murder with a deadly weapon.

Jackowski, also known as Devon Theus, is currently being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

 
March 19, 2008 - 4500 Block of Prada Place
Thursday, March 20th, 2008

On March 19, Metro officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had been parked in the same place for a few days.

Officers arrived and discovered a white male inside the back portion of the vehicle. Medical personnel responded and officers had to break a window to get into the vehicle. The victim was deceased.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. The victim, 62-year-old Heinz Wietfeldt, had been reported missing Tuesday, March 18th by a friend.

He was found inside his white Cadillac Escalade. His hands and feet were bound.

During the course of the investigation, Homicide detectives identified two suspects, 27-year-old Kenneth Thomas and 27-year-old David Jones, for the death of Wietfeldt.

Both men were booked into the Clark County Detention Center and charged with one count each of murder with use of a deadly weapon with a victim over 60, kidnaping with use of a deadly weapon, robbery with use of deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit kidnaping.

Detectives have determined Wietfeldt was shot by thesuspects during a robbery. The suspects then placed his body in the back of the Cadillac Escalade and drove the victim’s vehicle to Southern
Highlands where it remained parked there until it was discovered on March 19th.

 
March 16 , 2008 - 1500 block of Living Desert Drive
Monday, March 17th, 2008

On morning of March 16, Metro officers responded to a report that a man, wearing only underwear and a t-shirt, was knocking on the door of the caller’s house.

The caller reported the male was possibly armed and was asking for a female who was unknown within the house. The first arriving patrol officer observed the suspect standing near the citizen’s door.

As the officer exited his police car, the suspect ran at the officer with two large kitchen knives, one held in each hand. As this was occurring a second officer was arriving at the scene.

The primary officer began moving backwards while ordering the suspect, who was continuing to pursue the officer, to drop the knives. After retreating approximately 100 feet the first officer fired one round striking the suspect, who fell to the ground, dropping one of the two knifes.

The suspect ignored commands to drop the second knife and surrender, and as he stood up, still armed with a knife, the back-up officer fired two rounds, both of which struck the suspect.

The man, later identified as 37-year-old Daechull Chung, was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The citizen who originally requested Police assistance escaped injury in this incident.

 
March 12, 2008 - 4700 Block of Boulder Highway
Monday, March 17th, 2008

On March 12, 2008 Metro police responded to the Road Runner RV Park after a report of a female in need of medical attention. When officers arrived, they found a 12-year-old female, later identified as Gloria Redman, suffering from several stab wounds. She died at the scene of the crime.

Gloria’s mother told investigators she had arrived home from grocery shopping and found her husband, William Redman, with cuts on both of his arms and her daughter deceased.

Redman, who was found outside of the residence by responding officers, was transported to Sunrise Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

After interviews with witnesses and examination of the crime scene, Homicide detectives have arrested 54-year-old William Redman and charged him with one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

 
February 29, 2008 - Tomiyasu Lane & Sunset Road

missing_woman_180.jpgMariela Moreno’s body was discovered near Sunset Park February 29, 2008. She had been missing since the early morning hours of January 1, 2008.

The 20-year-old vanished without a trace. Her boyfriend, Isidro Munoz, was the last person to see her alive. He told police he had dropped her off at her home after a New Year’s Eve party but pulled his car away before she walked into the house.

In a February interview, Henderson police raised their suspicions. “From the moment detectives started working this missing person’s case, we felt there were some suspicious circumstances,” said Henderson Police Information Officer Todd Rasmussen.

For the past week, the coroner’s office has been working to positivity confirm her identity.

The Clark County Coroner says Moreno died of blunt force trauma to the head. Police are still investigating the case.

 
March 6, 2008 - Rancho and Palomino
Thursday, March 6th, 2008

murder_sketch_180.jpgOn March 6, 2008, workers cleaning up a vacant desert lot discovered a deceased male. Patrol officers and Homicide detectives responded and discovered a partially decomposed body of a Hispanic male, age 35-45 years, approximately 5′5″ tall, and weighing 135 lbs.

The male was wearing a green sweatshirt, black and white sweater, grey pants, and brown leather shoes. He had a silver wedding band on his left ring finger, a thin mustache, black and grey hair, and had a noticeable decayed upper front tooth, with a portion missing shaped like a crescent.

The victim did not have any identification and does not match any missing person reports on file.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the victim, or the murder is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the LVMPD Homicide Section at 828-3521.

On March 19, 2008, Metro detectives served a search warrant in an apartment on west Bonanza, just south of where the victim’s body was found.

Detectives arrested 43-year-old Jerry Nash for the murder. The victim has been tentatively identified as a 47-year-old Asian male. When his identity has been confirmed, and next of kin notified, his name will be released by the Coroner’s Office.

 
Cold Case - James Robert Williams
Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

new-image.jpgPolice are looking for three people involved in the shooting death of 18-year-old James Robert Williams.

Police say Williams was at Roadrunner Park near Boulder Highway and Racetrack Road on the night of July, 24, 2007. Williams got into a verbal exchange with the suspects and they began shooting at him. Williams was struck in the chest and died at the scene.

The suspects are described as three Hispanic males. Police have been unable to find any witnesses that got a clear view of the suspects but say they may have been driving a small, dark colored Honda or Hyundai.

February 16, 2008 - 6000 Block of Ridgecarn Ave.
Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Police are investigating the shooting death of 63-year-old Jean Eaker on February 16, 2008 in the 6000 block of Ridgecarn Ave.

Detectives believe Jean was killed in a murder/suicide plot. They are still investigating the crime.
