January 16, 2008 – Boulder Highway and Racetrack
Henderson Police shot and killed a 53-year-old man they say was coming at them with a gun.
It happened at about 10:35 a.m. Officers noticed a man in the desert area near Equestrian and Foothill. Police say the man looked suspicious as he got into a vehicle.
The officers began following the car and ran the plates. The car turned out to be stolen back in September in Las Vegas.
Officers pulled the man over in the Walgreen’s parking lot on Boulder Highway and Racetrack.
Police say the suspect got out of the car with a gun and approached officers aggressively. One officer fired at the man an unknown amount of times.
Why list people killed by police?
The man was hit and transported to St. Rose de Lima hospital where he died.
The officer, James Tetzlaff, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending a coroner’s inquest.
Tetzlaff was involved in another officer involved shooting in 2001, where he shot a man charging at him with a knife. He was found justified in that shooting.
Henderson Police detectives are investigating the shooting.
The person killed has been identified as 53-year-old Glenn Jeffery Spyer. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.
