On the night of May 11, Metro dispatch got a call from a security officer at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino reporting that an infant had been found in a trash can by a hotel cleaning crew.

Police Officers and medical personnel went to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of a recently born male infant, wrapped in a hotel gift bag and a pillow case. The infant had been left in a trash can inside a public restroom.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate. The body had been wrapped and placed into a trash can inside a woman’s restroom located near the elevators to Guest Tower One. An employee noticed the package in the trash and asked for assistance from security officers.

Police say it is likely that someone gave birth to this infant at another location shortly before the baby was found.

Anyone with knowledge of this incident is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide officers at (702) 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Metro Police received a call from a man saying there was a shooting at a house on Rancho Santa Fe avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a woman inside the house, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. There was also a man who was deceased in the garage of the residence, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and have preliminarily determined that the residents of the house, a husband and wife, had left their home for the evening and when they returned, they interrupted an individual who was burglarizing the residence.

The suspect shot and killed the wife and then became involved in a confrontation with the husband. During the struggle, the husband shot and killed the suspect.

The husband and wife knew the suspect as a handyman who did odd jobs around their home. Detectives are continuing their investigation.
