A fugitive from Florida who was on the run for nearly 30 years and living in Las Vegas found out he will be extradited.

Jack Hazen, who went by the name of Charles Free, was in a Las Vegas courtroom Monday morning when he learned that he will have to go back to Florida. Hazen was serving a seven year sentence when he escaped. He moved to Las Vegas, married and started a family and did not have any more run ins with the law.

Hazen and his family had been fighting the extradition due to his ill health.

  1. Finally justice will be served. He should not only do his original time but additional time for the escape. A criminal should not be absolved of his time because his health is bad or if he has been good for the past several years. He commited a crime and needs to do his time!

  4. I’m sure that ya’ll have thought this thru. But look at it different way. Thru my tax money I will have to pay for this move. If we put him in jail then with his medical problems and the time we are wasting is costing everyone in both states money. This money could be used for things like feeding our children, helping the homeless and taking care of the needy. Yes he should have remained in jail, but what I see is that he has been a good citizen and has given me a family that I would not have had if he had remained in jail.
