Metro is confirming that an adult male has been shot near Bonanza High school. They are looking for an adult male suspect. The shooting happened just after 1:30 p.m.

It happened within close proximity of Bonanza High School letting students out. That, coupled with the shooting last week near Palo Verde, police swarmed to the scene, closing down streets near Torrey Pines and Del Rey.

“We had a plan in place with the school district to have extra patrols here. Police officers arrived within about four or five minutes of the incident. From what I’m being told we had Metro here and school police, both in patrol cars and on bikes,” said Capt. Jim Dixon of Metro police.

Crime scene investigators were still gathering evidence as of 4 p.m.

The victim, around 19 or 20-years-old, is still in surgery at UMC and that he is in stable condition. No suspect information has been released yet but they say the shooting was the result of a fight that first began as a physical confrontation in an apartment complex very near to the school and it escalated into a shooting. The suspect did flee in a vehicle.

  3. One of your stories says an adult was shot and the other says a teen. Which is it?

The AP wire says a teen shot and injured at Del Ray and Torrey Pines. That about a half mile away :o(

This is getting so damn bad here in Vegas. It’s time to move!

  5. I dont know if any of you guys read the article, but it was by the school, but was caused by an apartment fight. It happens all the time, from neighborhood to road rage, but it seems that no one cares unless it is near a school. Then it is a big deal. People are shot daily in Las Vegas, we need more cops! There are not enough cops to keep the crime down. I know that my house was robbed and the man was still INSIDE, and it took the cops 2 hours to get there! There is just too much crime and NOT enough cops…

  6. I agree with WTF???? Aren’t we proud? How sad this had to happen on the day a family is burying their son from the same type of incident. Doesn’t seem to be “handled” does it? Metro and CCSD “had a plan in place” and the shooter got away? This is like watching the Keystone cops.

  7. The recent wave of hate attacks by these drive-by terrorists and home invader-murderers demand a high level Police response.

The Nevada State Police and the FBI should be brought in order that State and Federal gun and school zone gun laws can be applied to these murderous gangs and individuals engaging in what is domestic terrorism. They should be charged with the most serious charges that prosecutors can muster.

In addition, law-abiding citizens of legal age should obtain a concealed carry permit and get good fire arms training to protect yourself and your family.

The criminals seem to think that they can murder with impunity, they need to know we are mad and will not tolerate their murders any longer. Let’s come together and protect each other and this community. Report any suspicious activity

  12. I find it hard to believe that none of the males involved went to Bonanza. It happened shortly after school let out at 1:16pm and just across the street from the school (off school property to fight). My son was there when it happened and he has asked to stay home from school tomorrow in case there is retaliation. If I make him go and something happends I won’t be able to live with myself and I’d much rather be cautious than be the mother who gets a call saying her son was an innocent by stander who suffered a fatal gun shot wound. So I guess he’s getting a three day weekend.

  15. it’s a sham how this story got so twisted from the news yes it was a student no he wasn’t an adult he was a young teen who attented bonanza and i’m sitting here reading all these comments on how there where other students standing near by and not one spoke up for this young teen thanks so much for friends or your peers at school right.it’s not safe for kids now days to go and really get an education any more it’s all about fashion and who’s banging what. it’s a sham how some people raise their children in todays world they just don’t care. we don’t have enough protection any more for the crims that are happening today and the law enforcers don’t see it. how in the hell do you call 911 and be placed on hold (WTF)is that. they are here to protect and to serve ,yeah ok. god bless the family and my prayers are with you.

  16. This world has become soooooo TA (throw away) we are being programmed daily not to care! Gangs are just young teenagers and older who need to have others to stand with them, they cant do that on their own and be their own person! In our day we cared enough about our friends not to involve them in our arguements with another. We didnt need no gun, we used our fists, and it seems with gang members today they cant do nothing without a gun! For instance alot of O G’s that rap, they make gangs out to be so glamorous, YET, they dont want their kids growing up like this but the heck with every one elses they can get shot!!!? It IS scary because these gang members dont see with their own eyes they could be the next on the street lying dead, and dead is pretty done to me! Its not what God wants for us and yet they talk about God and how they believe in him? Yes something does have to be done about this problem so WE ALL can live in Las Vegas!! If these gangs would do something productive together maybe they wouldnt have so much time on their hands for fighting and shooting and get some respect from everyone not just the other gang members doing the wrong thing today!!!!!!!!Kids are very impressionistic and the songs today are very violent, it makes you wonder do these gang members have any FUN? Or are they all just sick individuals without any care or concern to life itself? And yes in the case at Palo Verde or Bonanza or alot of the schools today NO NO NO you dont want to send your kids into harms way!!!! The schools dont want to refresh their knowledge of gangs and how they act, what they do! I say live video camaras on the school grounds and a person behind those cameras to watch for gang activity and at the slightest gang movement arrest them!!! The expence, well in my mind, any expence is well worth the kids safety, and their freedom to go to school without fear and get an education, so they can rise above the ignorance and poverty of gang members!! Im livid about gangs because it is such a STUPID WASTE of LIFE!

  17. Looks like the wild west is back in full swing!!! Shoot ‘em ups on the streets…where is Wyatt Urp when ya heed him?!?!

Be it an adult or a child (especially)..shooting someone to solve anything is NOT the way to handle a problem.

    WTF indeed!!

  19. I saw the interview that LVMPD Detectives gave. What they did not say was that depite the fact that this shooting did not occur on Bonanza High School property, CCSD Police Officers arrived in seconds. On scene, these officers rendered first aid to the victim, collected suspect and suspect vehicle information, gathered witnesses and even secured the crime scene. All this was done PRIOR to the arrival of LVMPD Officers.
Many thanks to the CCSDPD that rarely, if ever get the credit for the job they perform.

  20. Regarding the crime in Las Vegas…Most of the comments resulting from the shooting at Bonanza are empty considering the fact that We as a society have promoted the society that we now live in….
Nevada, as many other states, especially Calfornia, are bleeding heart liberals that cater to Black, Mexican and white trash gang bangers. We seem to be blind to these “Home Grown Terrorists”. We allow RapCrap music condoning violence; we handcuff law enforcement by telling them they have to “chase” these gutter trash instead of just dropping them; we allow filt and idolize these roaches in movies and TV. We allow the absence of the teachings of morals, citizenship and last but not least, laws of the city, state and country. Then when an incident like Bonanaza occurs…..we get upset. YOU THE PEOPLE HAVE CREATED THIS MESS….YOU THE PEOPLE NEED TO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUTT and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !!

  21. I think who ever wants to do that stuff is riduclous because i think they should face the person then shooting that person and an adult getting killed maybe by a teenager.

  22. I think who ever wants to do that stuff is riduclous because i think they should face the person then shooting that person and an adult getting killed maybe by a teenager that is so un called for maybe who ever did this had to have a reason and if there was not a reason then why did they have to shoot the person. So not cool!!!!!!!!!

  23. You Officials in Las Vegas need to grab hold of your community. No matter how many authorities it takes the community obviously needs more. If it takes an official on every street corner then so be it. but do it. Stop the madness and we can all live safer and feel safer. And by the way, who do these thugs think they are trying to impress, their gang? Whoooopeeeeeeee Certainly not anyone with any brains
    would be the least impressed.

  24. TO EVAN ELYSE— The person who wrote the statement in #10. You said you saw the car, the people who shot the kid, and the kid who got shot. Did you report it? Because people who don’t speak up are also considered accomplises.
