Nevada Congressman Dean Heller has introduced a bill that would require all voter ballots to be printed in English only.

A provision to the Voting Rights Act requires cities and counties to provide bilingual ballots if 5-percent of the voting citizens speak little English. But Heller’s bill seeks to repeal that rule.

  1. Right on! Something has to give! They come to USA thinking THEY own the place and that WE should learn Spanish! It is the other way around!! I’m one citizen born and raised on American soil that is SICK of having to comply to satisfy THEM! I would NOT expect to go to another country and make THEM learn English- why should WE?!?! Juat another way that USA is getting taken advantage of….and people are allowing it!

  2. Finally, a Republican introduces a bill I can agree with fully. Why should States be required to spend the extra money, not to mention the excessive use of paper, to print the ballots in multiple languages? If the voters are U.S. citizens, shouldn’t they be able to read and speak English anyway? I don’t know for sure, but is the U.S. citizenship test given in multiple languages now also? When my ancestors took it, it was only in English for them. I’m glad someone is finally ready to make a stand on this one.

  3. If they believe in the right to vote for any office, they should all speak the spoken language of the United States. When my parents imigrated to the US there were no ballots written in there native language. How much does it take to learn the few words on a ballot such as President, Clerk, Judge. Give me a break.

  4. I know, how about if you are a U.S. citizen you learn english. What a concept.

  5. It is about time someone did something about forcing the illegals to learn english. I am so sick of these people coming in illegally and forcing the true Americans to conform to their way of life. I am half German and I do not see any signs that have any German writing on them-so why do we have to conform to them especially when the illegals are just too lazy to learn the proper American languge.
I say all you illegals need to conform to the American way of life and learn the American ways. Stop wasting our hard earned taxpayer dollars on your laziness.

  6. It’s about time! If you come to our wonderful country and become a citizen then learn to speak the language of the land. I highly doubt you will see any English ballots in Mexico. Learn the language or leave. I am happy to hear somebody finally proposed this. I am in 100% support of this. Way to go Dean Heller!!!

  7. Again, it’s about time. English has been the predominate language in the United States and it’s time that Americans speak English. Speak whatever you want at home but out in the world of business and government speak English. You’re an American…and if you want to speak and conduct government business in your native tongue…then go back to where you came from.

  8. when I immigrated to this country, one of the prerequisites of becoming a citizen was to be able to read write and speak English, what happened in the interim?
I became a citizen, and love being able to vote, but its terrible to see one group catered to.
there are many other countries that folks come from that aren’t..I mean, why not Polish, Italian, Norwegian, French? the language here is English, the voters should be able to read it, and speak it like all other people who have come here for the last few centuries.
The Romans had it down, “when in Rome” remember that?
    So, its about time !!

  9. DEAN HELLER FOR PRESIDENT!! It is about time someone spoke up about what most Americans support, to be American you should be able to communicate in english, but most politicians do not seem to listen to the American people, finally someone has. We all need to stand by Dean Heller and support him, I went to his website and joined his newsletter. Thank you Dean Heller!!
