Have you ever seen or met a president of the United States? If so, what was it like? I grew up inside the beltway but it wasn’t until my brief move to New York that I saw one. I was walking down the street and saw a very elegant older woman and thought to myself, “Wow, she looks a lot like Rosalynn Carter….maybe I should look at the man she’s with. Oh wow, that’s Jimmy! Yep, it’s them.” How about you?

  1. I grew up inside the beltway. When I was in second grade my mom and dad took us to the easter egg roll on the White House lawn. Back then the President attended the event itself. President Nixon. I still remember watching him walk by me. Another time we were on the White House property when President Bush (the first) was getting on his helicopter to leave. I did not get to see President Bush on his visit this week, but I sat in a huge traffic jam on I-95 this afternoon trying to get back to work when they closed the interstate to let his motorcade through. Did not give warm and fuzzys

  3. Since I spent a quarter of a century as a journalist, I probably had an advantage in meeting presidents.
As I recall, I interviewed Jimmy Carter in Las Vegas and recall him carrying a garment bag as he got off a plane. I also interviewed Ronald Reagan before he was president and George Bush the elder when he was vice president. I interviewed Gerald Ford in Las Vegas, but also ran into him and had a five-minute conversation at the Vail Golf Course in Colorado. Harry Reid once introduced me to Al Gore, which may or may not qualify as meeting a president.
