In the news business, most of us were huddled around the monitors watching as the attacks unfolded, but no matter who you are or what you do for a living, you remember exactly where you were when you learned about the terrorist attacks.

We want to hear your story, so please share it.

  1. I remember waking up in the morning and having this feeling that something wasn’t right. For such a busy town it was eerily quite. I turned on the TV and every channel was filled with news of the attacks. The whole day at work was so quite. It’s funny how something on the other side of the country can affect us right here at home. It was a solumn day here in Las Vegas, and everywhere around the world. We will never forget!!

  2. I was getting ready for work and I was was watching the morning news in Las Vegas. I saw the first airplane hit the tower and I yelled to my husband to watch. We then saw the second hit. My husband saw the towers fall. He drove me to work in silence. When I got to work at NY-NY Hotel everyone quiet with saddness in their face.

  3. I’ll never forget that morning! I was in my bedroom getting ready for work when my spouse phoned and said, “Turn on the TV! Quickly! A plane just crashed into the World Trade Center and another into the Pentagon!”
On my way to work, the radio broadcaster announced that the first building had imploded. When I got to work the Chairman of the Board phoned me to make sure all bank employees were okay. He mentioned that Hoover Dam could be in danger. All day long we watched the unbelievable scenes on television in between our duties (that is, whatever work we could concentrate on). Needless to say, that day changed the way we do banking forever. We have so many new security procedures and of course, The Patriot Act, which impacts everything we do at the bank!

  6. My husband and I couldn’t sleep, so he called his brother in California around 5 am to wish him a happy birthday.

When I woke up later, I got on the computer to check my mail, and there was a photo of one of the towers, with a big flaming hole in its side. I thought, “What kind of terror movie are they making now?” Then I read on, and turned on the TV, walking up the others in the house, telling them what happened, and saw the second plane hit the second tower.

It was deja vu - like when I saw Oswald murdered on live TV. This time it was on an unbelievable, gigantic scale though, and in “living color.” Too real, too horrifying.

After both towers had gone down, I remember briefly wondering if the NY NY Hotel and Casino had a replica of the Twin Towers, and realizing that if so, that’s the only place we could see them again.

I, like many others that day, sat glued to the TV most of the time. For the next several weeks, I felt completely terrorized, afraid to go out to dinner or go anywhere in public - afraid we were under seige. Imagine what the New Yorkers must have felt.

I hope we never have to experience anything like that ever again.

  7. we had come to las vegas for a short vacation staying at the flamingo we were getting ready for breakfast when I turned on the tv and saw the first tower had been hit, then I said hey look there’s another plane and then that one hit, will never forget that day. las vegas was motionless, and not to see anything in the air no matter which way you looked was really weird. we had to stay for an extended period of time.

  8. Kuwait City!!! In 2001 I was still in the Air Force, and had arrived in Kuwait to serve (yet another) tour for Operation Southern Watch. I actually left the states on Sept 10th, but considering the length of the flight I didn’t land until the 11th. After staying awake all day after already being awake for over 18 hours straight (to get used to the time zone), I decided to finally go to sleep. That’s when the alarms and sirens started blaring. The next thing I know, I’m wide awake with a M-16 in my hands guarding the base perimeter!!! The rest of my story is history.

  9. I was at work and my husband had text messaged me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. We got back to where there was a tv and watched what was going on, worried about firends and family who were either in NY or in the air flying.

  10. I clearly remember watching TV in the morning thinking it was a recap on a failed attack on the twin towers years earlier. Then it hit me with tons of hot needles and pins. Raining to my neck, back and the palms of my hand! Holy sh*t! This is real time… This is happening right this minute! I watched the second plane slam into the the second tower and disappear into the building. I felt extreme terror, extreme evil, dread and heavy sadness struck my heart all in fraction of a moment. As the building collapsed, I collapsed to the floor, howling, whailing and reeling in agony and with hellish pain! Pounding my fists on to the earth. Asking, Why? Why? Why!?!? I cried and was depressed for the next month. Aching to help , But couldn’t do nothing for the victims. Especially the unborn. This hurt has scarred me for life. This day wasn’t a good day to die. It was a day to only morn and remember loved ones. Please walk in beauty. Life is beautiful and so short. Live it like if it was the last day you’re going to walk the surface of this earth. This…this is a result of HATE. Nothing else! To survivors and their families. God bless!

  14. When this first all transpired I was at home getting ready for work. My husband was up and we turned on the TV after the first plane hit. I honestly felt like I was in a movie. It didn’t even feel real. We just stared at the TV in disbelief, then BOOM - the second plane hit. Now it really felt like a Horror movie we were watching. I had never seen Major Newscasters show such emotion and even a few shed tears! Unfortunately I had to somberly drive to work. I arrived at work and everyone was in an uproar. I work in a call center and everyone was up and about - some brought mini TV’s and radios. The phones were not ringing - no calls were coming in. Some employees were crying for their families that lived in NY and could not get through to them. Then a panic set in - suddenly everyone was being rushed out the doors in every direction. No one really knew what was happening - just that it was immenent to get out and get out fast. Once outside we were grouped up and accounted for and were told that there was a bomb threat that came in just shortly after I arrived to work. We didnt know to be angry or terrified. We were all bewildered. After over 2 hours of pacing and hearing everyone share their feelings and opinions on the worst attack on US Soil, in the somewhat still hot late summer sun of Las Vegas, it finally hit me - I wanted out of there - I wondered if this was happening all over the city - was my daughter ok at school? I didnt have a cell phone at that time. I left- I didnt care if I would get in trouble, something told me to go. I went home called the school and everything was fine. The next day at work after the Fire Department, Bomb Squad and Police had cleared the building, it was found out that the call came from within the building. It was an employee playing a redicously cruel inhumane joke. For the next few weeks they interrogated all agents that were not accounted for at the time the call was made. In a call center most all of your time is accounted for being logged into a phone. It was never made official, however someone was terminated just shortly after that and we all assumed he was the one that did it. It was never brought up again.

  17. I got off a plane from Burlington, VT to Philly just before anything happened. I was on my way to Atlantic City. We didnt know what was going on until after we checked in at Harrahs. Everyone with bags were being searched. Since that was my first time there I thought it was something they did…until they explained why.

  18. When I heard of the cowardly attack on innocent people on Sept. 11, 2001I was up early that Tuesday morning. I was driving my nephew to work, I heard on the radio that there had been an accident and a small plan had hit the World Trade Center. Automaticely I felt in my gut, this had been no accident. So te radio went back to the songsthey had been playing.I returned home and I am sorry to say I watch Good Morning America everyday.) So turned on the television to find(on every channel) a picture of the trade center just on fie, people hangin out windows. It was the most horrifing day of my life. I caled my dad in tears, “Daddy, What the hell is going on” At that moment I watch thesecond lane come in and strike that building and I felt as if I had been punched in the stomach. Neither my dad nor I said a word for a good three or four minutes. I was crying by the time I could get a wrd to come outof my mouth. “I’m scared Daddy” “Me too Baby’ just come home” So that is what I did. By the time I got home(at that timei lived on Lake Mead Blvd/Nellis my parents lives at Las Vegas Blvd N./Nellis.) I jumped on the bus ans because I had to pass the Air Force Base, it took me 2 1/2 hours to get 3 stoplights. I got o my parents house and one by one my 2 brothers and my 2 sister called our dad and he told them the same thing he told me. So we spent the worst day in this wonderful countries history together with family. Ase watched those towers fall Me, Dad, Mom, ichelle, Danielle, Randy, Stephen, and my cousin Joey sat and cried. Waiting for someone/anyone to tell us this was some movie or terrible joke. Unforunatly, we weren’t lucky enough to ever get that message. To All the Fallen Heros who parished on that horrible day, the days following, the people who went in to help, and every soldier in Iraq, Aghanastan, and all the Military Men and Women. We than you for all your sacrifices. The sacrifices of your families are greatly appriciated. We love you and THANK YOU! And to United 93. You Guys kick Ass
Thank you Thank youThank you INFINITY Your sacrifices will never be forgotten, we will always remember. God Bless You All
And again, My family and I thank you along with the rest of this country! THANK YOU
