Does anyone want a one year old spayed female Husky? She is beautiful, sweet, well trained, a little needy, though. She has one eye and thinks she is a cat.
honestly. If you want a dog that can climb like a cat, you want this dog. no, you do.

  2. Denise Says:

I have an adopted male pomeranian about 9 years old who needs to be re-potty trained. Any good ideas that work?

I am aware that there is a dog team involved in relay racing here in the valley. I have not been able to locate it or anyone that knows about this sport. If you any contact person pls let me know. Thanks. jb

I have hopes that other pet lovers join me in getting the deplorable conditions that are at the Look Puppies on Snset ave. These small puppies are kept on metal floor cages and in one cage their was two small dogs who could not even turn around. We went thair today to look for a new friend whon we lost last saturday after almost 17 years.I called the animal contol and they informed me this palce has had numerous complaints to no avail as they just happen to meet the requirements. I plan to go to ciy hall and file a complaint. I need your help.

It is amazing how the Lied Animal Shelter got away with so much. Is it because it is run by the Greenspuns (GreenValley Ranch) Greenspuns? If it was some toothless lady in Pahrump they would all be in jail.

  6. Rick Says:

I have had bitter sweet memories with Lied Animal Shelter in the past 5 years. I had to have a dog i had for many years euthanized there. Then, this past October, i lost a shih-tzu from a disease called pyometra. I became lonely, and very depressed. I needed an animal (or animals) to care for again. I didn’t think it was too soon! There are millions upon millions of animals who need a loving home. Some are very close to being euthanized because of the overpopulation, and i felt it was my duty as a human, as one of God’s creatures, to help one of his other creatures out. So, i went to a dog function at Desert Breeze park. I forgot the name, but it was last November 4th. I found two dogs there being adopted out by the animal foundation, and i paid for them both and took them home. They are GREAT dogs, and i love them both dearly. They are very content, and very gentle. I honored my lost shih-tzu with adopting these two shih-tzu’s, and giving them as much love and care as i gave her. I was saddened by the loss of over 1000 animals at the animal foundation last february. It tore my heart out. I was glad that my dogs were not included in the mix. I feel i saved their lives, as they may have been two of those 1000 if i hadn’t adopted them. So this is a very bitter sweet comment on the animal foundation. Sometimes there are sad stories, and sometimes there are very happy ones. I just hope that someday, the happy ones can outnumber the sad ones at that place. It’s not a good place to be, as there are dogs and cats and other animals that are in bad shape. I am just glad that some of the humans in this city go there, not to take their old, sickened animals to be euthanized, but to go there, and adopt an animal, or some animals, to give some much needed love to.

I just saw on Pet Tales page that you’ve started to list pets to be adopted. The dog and cat you chose are soooooooo cute!!

  8. Michele Alberts Says:

How is it that Leid has become so bad??? I have been in Vegas for 15 years and the shelter has gone from bad to worse!! I know most of this is the community’s fault – there are too many ignorant people out there who feel that animals are disposable. My ignorant neighbors across the street have managed to lose 2 Chihuahuas and one Pit in the last year. They never had collars and these people didn’t even bother to look for the missing animals!!!

  9. Loren Says:

So when does the management get arrested? Haven’t seen a Greenspun in court yet, have you?

  10. Linda Says:

How can Lied Animal shelter fire 28 employees and say they do not need to rehire anyone? I find it hard to believe that these people did nothing. Pay raises for existing employees will not increase productivity unless they are super humans. They are just asking for trouble for lack of help. My friends and family volunteer there and they state they is always too much to do. What is going to give? The animals will lose out……again. They better rethink this one. What does the Humane Society say this time?

I would be happy to help you! We filed a law suit against these horrible people after they killed 5 of our puppies! They are awful, heartless, careless, greedy, selfish people! We won our law suit, but they refuse to pay us! We helped to shut down their Eastern Avenue store, but the store on Sunset should be shut down as well! They have no business working with animals!!! They are HORRIBLE people!! Contact me if I can help you! I’d be SO happy to!!

On Wednesday August 22, 2007 a MALE, German Shepherd was STOLEN from Lied Animal Shelter and his whereabouts are currently unknown. The people filled out an application, all with false information and then walked off with the dog, before closing. He is a Black and Tan/Red male German Shepherd dog, with one blue eye and one brown eye. If you know anything, you are asked to call please please please contact Lied Animal Shelter, or GSD Rescue of Las Vegas @ 702-492-4707 THERE IS A REWARD BEING OFFERED !!!

  13. Brandi Lipinski Says:

My dog was stolen off of my Patio Tuesday night or early morning when she went outside to go to the bathroom. I work where i live and someone called animal shelter because she was found in rocks and bushes by my office door. Someone had brutely beaten her with a bath or a shoe or some blunt object. She went under surgery yesterday, and died early this morning. It makes me sick to know there are people out there who will harm such innocent animals. Please keep a close eye on your animals when they are outside, i would hate for someone else to have to go through all this pain i am going through. My Husband bought this dog for me before he left for military boot camp. He is currently in Iraq as we speak. This dog was a huge part of our family, and my 8 month old babies best friend. Lets try and catch this sick people and put a stop to this.

  14. Debbie Says:

While searching for a friends lost siberian husky, I have come across numerous people who have had their dogs stolen. Does anyone know of a dog theft ring operating in Las Vegas, especially via “handmen” and other household construction, repair workers?

I am going threw a divorce and moving therefore I can no longer can keep my two black cats Cash and Hooch. They are brothers and would like them to go together. There house trained and love affection. They come when you wistel like dogs and love to play fetch with toy mice. If anyone is interested I can send pictures to your email. If so email me at jessica15601@yahoo.com

  16. Jacqueline Says:

DO NOT take any animal to LIED! It has turned from a “no care shelter” to a “high kill shelter”. Nearly 8 out of 10 animals are put down – most within 72 hours!

Take them to the NSPCA on Dewey Drive. They will have a chance there!

  17. Manuel Lynch Says:

I have heard from management, employees, volunteers and people very close to this Shelter that it is the wort run place. From the Executive Director not knowing what a “bully breed” is, to an Operations Manager who threatens people who donate, to a staff that is scared to death to say what is really going on…Animals are being sent for Medical services and not coming back, animals are being stolen but not reported, animals are being killed in less than 72 hours and then taken in dump trucks to the dump – it is “cheaper” than incinerating. They also decided not to give the animals vaccines because it cost too much. They wouldnt buy shampoo to wash dogs. And management is constantly doctoring the data to the jurisdictions, to their Board of Directors, and to the public. This place should make us embarrassed to be a citizen of Las Vegas.

  19. Christine Says:

Hey there!! Any dog experts out there? I just adopted a little dachsund mix from Lied Animal Shelter. He is really sweet. He is approximately 13 mos. old. I only have one problem….he does not like the crate when I go to work. The first day I put a rug in there to make him comfortable….chewed it all up……then yesterday and today he chewed on a bone that I gave him and threw it up. It seems that I cannot put anything in the crate with him. He just hates it and I would like to know if there is anything that I can do to calm him down. I hate that he gets so worked up.

    Thanks,

    Christine

  20. Laura Says:

Hi Christine, Consider whether or not your dog is getting enough exercise when not in the crate ( a dog walk before you leave and when you arrive home may work wonders) also consider how long you are crating when you are away at work. A tired dog is a good dog, but if you crate too many hours especially for a 13mnth old dog, he may just be bored. Another thing to think about is how big the crate is, make sure the area is big enough. I’ve seen pen-like gating work well which can offer a little more room.

Freeze some peanut butter inside a Kong toy or put some other treat in there for him to work on. I wouldn’t put a rawhide in there, because if he eats it up too quickly, it might have a bad effect, just safer not to.

If it is not boredom, but rather anxiety you might try D.A.P. Dog Appeasing Pheromone which can be found at PetCo or PetSmart.

I am a PR pro and animal lover who just received this sad news. Hope you can help.I recommend you contact them directly, as I am merely a messenger.

We received this owner surrender from Las Vegas, Nevada

The dogs had been living in her car, and it had become to hot for them to continue to do so.

MILES AND ABBY are heartbroken to have lost their home and their Mom.

Abby, Marley, and Miles have been a family to each other for 8 years. Abby is Marley’s (the Bichon-a-who Mix in the middle) Mom.
(Miles is his Step-Dad. Abby was involved with Marley’s real Dad for a brief time before she met Miles.
They have since become a blended family.)
Their Human Mom was living in a car with them in Las Vegas until it became too hot for them to survive.

Our plan was to take in the pair of Bichons, vet them, and to place them as a bonded pair.

We would take in the son in as well, since this was an emergency situation, with a plan to send him to another rescue, one who would maybe have a chance of placing him better than we would since, as you can see, he doesn’t look very bichonly.

We were also remembering that in the whole time we have been doing this work, in 11 years, we have never been able yet to place three bonded dogs together in one home.

We still have seven Bichons needing foster homes across the country. Only one airfare was raised for the seven others who now have a place to go.

How could we ask anyone, with all of the rest of this going on, to take in three at once?

We told the owner that we would take in all three but probably would not be able to place them all together. We asked who was more bonded to whom, and were told the Bichons are the most bonded to each other but that Marley, Abby’s son, seems to be just as bonded to both of them.

After the owner submitted the owner surrender form, she ended up having to have an emergency appendectomy, and was taken to the hospital.

WHERE WERE HER DOGS? DEAR GOD. WERE THEY LOCKED IN A CAR SOMEWHERE DEAD OR DYING FROM THE HEAT?

Jan Crowl, the Team Leader for Nevada went to work locating her dogs. She found them. They were alive but needed rescue immediately. ALL THREE of them.

When we saw the picture of the two Bichons, we were relieved to get them out of a hot car where they were spending their days.

When we saw the picture of the son, we knew he didn’t look even maybe Bichonly, and with 280 Bichons in rescue right now, and with funding being so hard right now, we decided to find another rescue for little Marley.

That was Monday morning. As the day wore on our Board discussed it some more. We all felt terrible separating this family, but felt the chances of finding a foster home and then an adoptive home for three at once was nigh to impossible.

By afternoon, Jan was beside herself, trying to find another rescue to take little Marley. And he has another problem. He drools. His teeth are terrible as are Miles’ and Abby’s. The drooling will probably be corrected after his dental.

By 5:00 I was pretty much in a “don’t speak to me or I might just bite your head off AND spit it right back out at you” mood.

Bonnie wasn’t do well either. Lynda DeHart was checking in from being on vacation and she felt awful too, but we knew we had no one to take them in all together for fostering. And even if we did, would anyone out there adopt all three?

We decided the answer was probably not.

Jan went forward with trying to find another rescue to take Marley.

She went up to the vet’s office where they are all being boarded in the same large kennel for $29.00 a night, where they curl up tightly together.

She got little Marley out and took him over to the vet’s table.

He turned his head back to Abby and Miles and began to struggle to get back to them as Abby, his Mom was wailing out loud.

Oh God. Please deliver me from this decision of having to separate this family.

By 7:00 I was writing the newsletter last night trying to raise funds for Dalila and Skyler.

At 7:30 I learned that two of our hospice dogs were on their way out and both foster parents were very upset of course, and they both needed advice. It is so hard when your foster dog has Osteosarcoma and her jaw is being eaten away and now, it has gotten to the point where it smells. It is time.

Or your foster dog is nearing the end with liver values that are through the roof. The dog is vomiting and now has begun shedding the skin of her kidneys through her urine. It was time.

I tried to put Las Vegas out of my mind. I tried not to think that Miles and Abby may be spending their last night with Marley, the last part of anything thing they all knew or loved.

By 9:30 I was able to send out last night’s newsletter, and realized I hadn’t eaten dinner yet. Dale kept asking me, “You gonna eat tonight?”

DO I LOOK LIKE I AM GOING TO EAT TONIGHT?? I’ve got two hospice dogs crashing, I’ve got seven Bichons who have no place to be other that a cage in a vet’s office and the meter is running on those cages. Some volunteers, meaning well, have forgotten to get vetting approved from their Team Leaders prior to scheduling surgeries and we have been getting surprise vet bills averaging several thousands of dollars a month, leaving us in the red for the past two weeks. I have two little girls needing surgery NOW, and four more needing expensive medical things next week. And on top of that I’M GETTING READY TO RIP A LITTLE DOG FROM HIS PARENTS, HIS ONLY FAMILY, AND SEND HIM TO STRANGERS WHERE THEY WILL NEVER SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN. THIS IS THEIR LAST NIGHT TOGETHER. DO I LOOK LIKE I AM GOING TO EAT TONIGHT??!

Poor Dale. He can’t help it he fell in love with a MAD WOMAN.

I stopped at 10:00 and ate. I brought dinner back to the bedroom where Dale was now climbing into our bed.

He says, “You didn’t eat until this same time last night. You need to start eating at the same time as the rest of us.” (Meaning himself and Spunky the Monkey and Chipper, our Bichons.)

    Wrong thing to say.

I asked him, “If there was a fire and you could only save ONE of them, looking down at our two, which one would you save??”

What in the world? Hey. He’s been married to me for almost 25 years. He oughtta know better by now.

So I break down and tell him I don’t think I can do it. He knows the story. He saw the picture. He’s on our Board.

He hates it too. But what choice do we have? There are three and times are different than they were even a year ago.

It’s now 10:30 PM. I finish up answering e-mail and crawl in the bed with this man, oh I love him so, and finally close my eyes at around 12:15 AM, after laying there staring at the ceiling for an hour.

This morning at 5:00 AM, I was no better. I turned to my old friend Who has loved me more than anyone else ever has and more than anyone else ever will.

“Ok God, here’s the deal. Why is this bothering me so? He will get a good home. He’ll get over it soon., won’t he?”

I didn’t ask God to change the situation or to help me to find a magical solution. I did ask Him for peace of mind for all concerned.

I knew that all of our Board, and Jan the NV. Team Leader were all upset with what we were going to have to do, separate this family who weren’t “just bonded”. Jan witnessed that they were REALLY BONDED when she carried little Marley even a few steps away, he panicked at the thought of leaving the other two.

But we also knew the chances of fostering, much less placing all three together would be way to much to ask of you all.

I remembered what Joyce Meyer, an evangelist who has a ministry that Dale and I support, had said while she was here in Tulsa recently, leading a three day conference.

I remember her talking to us about when things seem impossible, we need to do what we CAN do and then God will do what we CAN’T do.

She talked about when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was His good friend. He’d been summoned to come when Lazarus was very ill. In the mean time Lazarus died and had been quite dead for four days when Jesus arrived.

Well, Jesus told them to roll the stone of Lazurus’ burial tomb away.

Now if you think about this, Jesus could have easily rolled the tomb away himself. After all He was about to go in and raise a dead guy. The tomb stone He could have handled.

But instead He instructed men to do it. After they did, he went in and did what they couldn’t. Then, he and Lazarus walked out together.

Joyce felt that God was telling us this. We should do what we can. And then let God do what we can’t.

So what I CAN do is at least ask. I can ask if there is anyone out there who could have this family become a part of their’s.

We will happily do a three for one reduced adoption fee if there is anyone who could adopt this trio.

If there isn’t anyone to adopt them yet, is there anyone who can maybe foster all three of them?

If they aren’t in driving distance to you, maybe some other Small Pawsers may be to help with airfares.

Renee Polley in Los Vegas has offered to pay $250.00 towards Marley’s vetting and I just learned she too was hoping we could try to keep them together and is relieved we are trying to do so.

Now, in 11 years we have never been able to place three adults at once into either foster care together or into a forever home together.

Yes, our funds are low and our need is high.

But I will tell you this and it is the truth, so help me God.

After I began to see this situation as not impossible because of my own limitations, and instead possible because there are no limitations with God, a peace came over me and I no longer felt angry.

I picked up the phone and called Bonnie, telling her of my night, and my prayer time, and of what was shown to me, and about my peace of mind.

She was elated and said “Let’s go for it.”

So together we called Jan Crowl, the team leader.

She also confessed she didn’t sleep at all last night knowing she was going to have to separate them today, sending Miles and Abby to foster care until funds for their vetting could be raised. (Scroll down for that info) Jan would be sending Miles and Abby to foster care today, where the foster mom already has two other Bichons and can’t take in three more dogs at once.

So, I’m coming to you now and I’m realizing that this is not something I have the ability to do. Find a home that can take in all three.

So, I’m doing what I can and I’m asking God to do what I can’t.

If you can see it in your heart to make these three a part of your home, this is an adoption application.
Fill out an online adoption application!

If you can offer them a foster home together, and are not yet an approved foster parent for Small Paws, this is how to do that.

If you can help us to pay for their vetting, the estimate is as follows.

    Jan says:

“These dogs have had not professional care for years and their teeth are horrible, all three will need major extractions.
$634.50 is the estimate for the total cost for Miles and Abby. They are all three being boarded at the vets now at $29.50/per night. Marley’s estimate if for $238.00 for his vetting.”

Below is how to make a donation for them if you are able to do so. I’ve taken off everything about things we sell and have just left the bare bones information for you.

Thanks so much for listening to my ramblings about a day in the life of the Small Paws home office, our Board Members, our NV Team Leader, and three very special little ones, who love each other so very much. All My Love, Robin

    Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
    Godspeed Humphrey Sisco. Godspeed.
