My son Joseph and I met Joan and Sharona in the spring of 2005 when both Sharona and Joe were taking a class at the Community College . The kids became friends and Sharona encouraged Joe to work hard and would always tell him he can do anything he put his mind to .Joe has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair as well . I have never seen a mother more dedicated or caring than Joan . She truly loves Sharona and was helping her to become as independent as possible she always encouraged Sharona and Sharona was doing great .Joe also attends UNLV and every time we saw Sharona on campus she was always smiling and happy and rushing off to committee meetings and student council things. She told us she was going to be a special ed teacher and work with young kids. Sharona had a good life with Joan and was always well taken care of .It is so horrible that this church has brainwashed her ,this is the only thing we can believe has happened and anyone who knows Joan and Sharona will tell you this .I want Joan to know that we are here for her and we support her and if she needs anything that she can call me.

I had the pleasure of knowing Sharona for almost three years before this horrendous thing happened. I met her through my brother, who is also in a wheelchair when they both attended a CCSN class at the Henderson campus. Sharona had an amazing relationship with her mother Joan. I also was fortunate to be in a introduction to special education class with Sharona at UNLV. Sharona loved school and she wanted to be a special education teacher. I find it horrifying that she is now BRAINWASHED by this so-called church. The person you described last night in your report as dirty and unkept was not the real Sharona. Sharona obviously needs to be taken out of that environment and away from that so-called care giver Miss Perez. This is an atrocity. I feel so bad for Sharona and her Mother Joan, and i think that you questioning that it is really just a mother / daughter fight is disgusting. These people at International Church of Las Vegas are disgusting and what they are doing to Sharona HAS TO STOP!

The 2million dollar trust fund has to be the motive, because this is not the real Sharona

Wow. I can’t believe how the news is taking this story and making it out to look like this girl has been stolen from her mother by the church.
ICLV is a decent church. To say that they don’t “accept” cancer, multiple sclerosis, or disease is very strange. It is scary how the media would choose just the right words to mislead people. No one there will deny that you have cancer. They do believe that God has the power to heal disease, and from personal experience I’d have to say that they are definitely healing people miraculously.
I do not “accept” that I have a sickness and die. I fight it and overcome. Most people would do the same thing.
The fact that Sharona has found Christ is a wonderful thing. I am positive that she is surrounded by people that love her very much. If there is one thing people at that church do, it is love. She has not been ‘brainwashed’ into giving someone money. That is not what this is about at all. I think that there may be a huge misunderstanding about the power of the Holy Spirit moving in that church, and the life changing effect it has on people there. If Sharona is genuinely seeking God’s will, He will bless her and this situation. I know I will be praying for her, and her mother, and her friends.

Soooo. I am a little confused about this story. What does the church have to do with this girl? Who cared that she goes to church and is trying to establish a relationship with god. Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing? Shouldn’t there be more people like her being faithful to God. How dare you discourage someome from having faith and living right. Maybe the girl has some issues of the unseen with her mother or family members. I think it is very sad that the media is trying to discourage some young woman to give her life to the lord. It’s a little ironic how you mention the $2 million dollar trust fund associated with ICLV. Why don’t you just come and say the church is after her money? I am a member of ICLV and have been for 12 years. I love my church, the pastor, and my children and I attend every Sunday. I am very sad to see these attacks made on ICLV. With everything going on in the world today, violence, the war, etc., maybe if we had the presnece of god in our lives and our children’s lives the world would be a better place. Good for Sharona. I hope she keeps attending and maybe her mother and or father will be by her side.

Until yesterday sharona didn’t even know about all of this. Why were we the ones to tell her. how truly investigative is this whole report. She is in umc unable to go home because there is no place for her to go. her mother has custody of her still, though she is an adult, and if she wants her home why did she kick her out. and why has she not taken her home. Sharona cannot choose her own home so your report is totally false. she comes to our school sevral times a week so she can’t be going to iclv all that much. she is handicapped but not stupid so why don’t you ask her.

I am thrilled that Mr Knapp is doing an expose on this matter. I am extremely worried to hear that Sharoana is at UMC due to neglect on the part of her caretakers. Her court appointed guardian is worthless in regards to her safety and well being. He should have found out and done something to help her a long time ago. Do not give up until there is a new guardian assigned to her, and can her attorney file a restraining order on the church and it’s members until this matter is cleared up?
Comment by Melody Takami — May 1, 2007 @ 4:15 pm
This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! The International Church could care less about Sharona’s money. Why would they go after it? They have better things to do than that. And just because they pray for her to get healed does not mean they are brain washing her.I’m sure that if anyone else was in the same postion, they would want a church to be praying for their healing. It’s amazing that something that honestly has nothing to do with the church has been focused mainly on the church. This mother is not fighting the church, she is fighting her daughter. Her daughter is a big girl and she knows exactly what she wants. If she has been cut off from family and friends, it is because she chose to cut them off. It has nothing to do with ICLV.

Ok first off why is there a battle over this whole thing? I can truly tell you I had a great relationship with both my parents and I truly loved both of them and very much so respected them as well.
But when I turned of age I wanted freedom to make my own choices my own decisions.
After all God wants us all to have freedom not shackles right?
My mother was very protective of me..I felt as though she did not trust me enough to make my own decisions.
But I decided to leave home at a young age by my decision. I will tell you what happened my mother called the police had them looking for me told them I was a runaway…When I talked to a police officer he asked me how old are you I told him 18 soon to be 19.
Legally he told my mother I was considered an adult. He asked me then do you want to go home I told him no! I want freedom I am not dumb and I am not easily persuaded by others either.
I love my church with all my heart they are my family now as to my mother passing away I still remember her last words to me was she was sorry for trying to take me away from goiing to church for she could see how mature and outgoing I am!
She told me how much she loved me and was proud of me as well a great wife to my husband.
I love International church of Las Vegas because they have taught me so much about being a strong Woman of God they have also helped me through the death of both parents.
Funny thing is both my parents catholic for many years both gave there heart to christ before passing.
My father said he surrendered his heart to Jesus because he wanted to feel the joy and love he seen in me in which God poured out to others.
One thing I know about parents is the hardest thing to ever do when you have kids is to let go and stand back and let your kid spread their wings…
My father and mother both told me that was the hardest part but if they could see me wait they do see me and I know they are smiling and so very, very proud of there daughter!

It doesn’t surprise me to see an investigative reporter misconstrue a matter that involves a Christian organization. I bet if this was a Mormon, Muslim, etc. some other religious organization, it would not have hit the news. I have an idea lets spend 10 minutes talking about Mr. Knapp’s personal life and sins.

People who don’t know the whole story really have some nerve putting down Sharona’s mother . And as far as its good for Sharona to be involved in church and the church telling people the more you give the more you get Jesus never would charge any person to heal them What kind of church keeps a person from their family, friends and aspirations for the future

How does anyone know what Sharona really wants if she is always watched over by this church? how does anyone know if this is really the truth.. once i hear . from Sharona .. AWAY from this church i will respect her decision .. It doesnt seem like shes thinking on her own if these people are going everywhere with her and holding on to her at all times.. Maybe some people like being controlled by others. .. but there are some people out there who like having a free mind and not having people hovering over them all the time.

- Sharona was the one who moved out.. no one kicked her out.
When she was living with her mother she had her own section to the house, like her own apartment - i know this because i knew Sharona
- Sharona is not currently going to classes

It is sad to say that you have put a church in the middle of a issue between Sharona and her mom. EVERYONE has a free will to do what they want and no one can keep you from doing that. If Sharona wants to talk to her mom, she will. But apparently she doesn’t want to. ICLV is not separting her from family. I think you should leave the church out of this and talk about the real issue: Sharona and her Mom.
I am also very disappointed that you put ICLV in the middle of this. I have been attending for many years and they could care less on how much money you make. ICLV cares for people and their needs, just as any other church would do.

George, the supposed Chief Investigative Reporter, needs a new job working for Metro because he really did a good job researching this story, NOT! I can’t believe we have people like him in these public positions. He opened a big can of worms. Do you know how many people he is turning against a good church; a church that feeds the homeless every week, and does countless of good deeds in the community. Now, you have poisoned and pushed away hundreds and not thousands away from ever knowing Christ. George, you are not an integrous person. I feel more sorrow for you than I do Sharona at this point.

I am very disappointed with your news report.
First, why do you air peoples personal business?
There are a few items that I would like to comment on that were not accurate. It would be great to have people look at www.iclv.com to know facts about my church.
In response to your report…
1. Old fashioned chanting?
FALSE - I would personally like to invite you to come and sit through an entire service, not as a news anchor looking for a story but we would like to introduce you to Jesus. The best friend you will ever have.
2. “The more you give the more you get?”
FALSE - Where was that information given from? Has Joan ever sat in a service?
3. “Sharona had become deeply involved with the International Church of Las Vegas and was attending services three or four days a week to the exclusion of everything else. ”
FALSE - I would also like to inform you that Sharona attends multiple churches in this city, not just ICLV. She is here only one morning a week and one night.
4. “Friends who went to the church to see her say they were rebuffed too, not allowed to speak to Sharona alone.”
FALSE - ICLV has never stopped her friends from communicating with her on or off the campus. She has her own cell phone and can call whomever she pleases whenever she pleases. She is only here a few hours a week and the rest of the time she is on her own.
5. “Her mother says Sharona has stopped meeting with her doctors, no longer receives therapy, and has no life other than church.
FALSE - Where did you visit her? Isn’t she under Drs care?
6. Joan Albstein: “I love my daughter. I miss her and love her and want her to be the best she can be. She’s become a non-person, a non-person.”
FALSE - She is very much a person and quite humerous and alive.
7. Eight or nine church members showed up Tuesday morning to pray with Sharona and were still there in the afternoon when the I-Team arrived for the interview.
FALSE - I was one of 4 people who were at the hospital for the interview. 2 of the 4 arrived around 12:45pm and the other two arrived earlier. Sharona asked to take her to the chapel and to the chaplain so that she could be interviewed there. She asked us to see her after the interview. Matter a fact, I was the one who shook your hand.
The above are accurate and corrected statements.
I have been here since ‘93 and I can say that ICLV has been there for me in times of trouble. The Lord has totally healed by body from disc problems and more and it has been all verified by medical doctors.
The church believes in reconciliation and we have seen many families brought back together. I would love to see this for Sharona.
Something to Ponder or things that make you go hummm… GEORGE…
Isn’t it interesting that Joan has not once called the church?
God bless you my friend!
Robyn

The people that speak negatively about ICLV have obviously never attended a single service. First of all, Sharona has never been “surrounded” by anyone. Most days she arrives by public transportation, on her own. This is also how she usually goes home. She owns, and is quite capable of dialing and using her cell phone. She will very decisively tell you what she does like, and does not like. She picks the Sunday school classes she wants to attend on her own. She is a volunteer greeter and is often in the front lobby greeting people, friends and strangers alike. I have never had the opportunity to see her arrive dirty, or “out of it”. Although Sharona has many physical disabilities she is very with it mentally. ICLV offers the love of Jesus Christ to all who walk in the doors. However, any person with the intent of being deceptive, or causing harm, against members of ICLV will asked to leave. This is one of the few churches in America that loves and values the person; not the money, not the works, not the connections. If Channel 8 was doing a through investigation they would see how the homeless are embraced, the hungry are fed, and the needy receive. They would know that several of the ICLV lead staff donate their salaries back, in essence choosing to work for free. The only conflict here is a controlling mother that is having trouble releasing her ADULT daughter to live where she chooses and do what she chooses. The only person fighting to be in control of Sharona’s money, is her mother. Maybe there should be an investigation into her intentions, and her financial status. In the meantime, the Lord will turn, what was intended as a negative, into good.

This whole story is so sad. I feel for the mother who’s lost her daughter. I attended ICLV on a couple occassions and I DID NOT feel the presence of God in that place. In fact, I felt just the opposite. I am a born again Christian and any church that is going to “hide” someone and not let them have contact with their family is hiding something. I believe strongly the church is behind all this. ICLV is trying to make things appear good on the outside but really there are deeper issues not being addressed. I pray that peace will come of all this and I hope and pray that Sharona will find the strength to get the help she needs.

Where I come from, Lake Arrowhead in Southern California, we have an overabundence of wealthy people and grifters who preach God, and I used to see this kind of thing happening every couple of years at least. If a reverend doesn’t have both hands on the Good Book, you can bet one of them will be on your wallet.

The I Team needs to investigate this so called caregiver. It is prevalent in vegas how these so called caregivers seem to find the most vunerable to prey on. It sounds that this caregiver is after this child’s trust fund. These people get the sick and elderly to sign everything over to them including their homes. These people will manipulate the fragile minded to go against their family to get what they want.

This story is so sad. I feel deeply for the mother who has lost her daughter. I’m a born again Christian myself and I think it’s great that Sharona has found Christ, HOWEVER, I DO NOT feel that ICLV is a Christ-centered church. I attended ICLV on a couple occassions and not only did I NOT feel the presence of God in that place, I felt just the opposite. Another force is working there and it’s NOT of God. Churches are supposed to lend support to others in need, not cut them off from their families and those who love them. I don’t believe for an instant that Sharona’s mother abused her. I do believe she’s been told to say that by the people of ICLV. The church is hiding something and if we don’t find out what it is, more innocent lives are going to be affected. I hope and pray that Sharona finds the strength to come out of all this and that peace will come to her and her mom.

I think this is very sad. A mother and daughter should never part ways especially over church.
I feel very sad for her mother, how heartbroken she seems to be. I was a member of ICLV a few years ago, and I can believe how she could have gotten caught up in all the stuff they teach and preach. The members there are very loyal to their main Pastor.I rememeber a time when everyone had brought belongings of theirs to the stage after a sermon on Idols. The Pastor had also given a ring he had won for JR Hockey. People brought all kinds of valuables, a week later he had his ring on and his wife claimed she bought it back for his birthday. I believe the mother is right about not trusting this church and should go with her gut instinct.Unfortunatly all kinds of people can caught up in a feel good place like ICLV.

I also had the opportunity to be involved in this situation. However because of the HIPPA laws, I am unable to say too much! I can ask questions however and that is what I would like to do. WHY was Sharona taken out of the care of her mother. Yes she did have her own space in the home however, she was REMOVED Why. The courts appointed lawyers that worked to place her in a safe environment…have you spoken to them. Why now is her original caretaker not around? That is a most interesting story. When was this trust fund officially set up. Where is her father in all of this. She and her father were somewhat close. Yes, the church was a problem when I knew her but she was clearly looking for a place to belong. This should have been something that the family provided for her, why did that fall apart IF in fact she was close to her mother. Again, follow the money! Sharona is a very intelligent person BUT she is 19 and needs professional guidance with her money because she is in good health and that money needs to last her for a long time. IF her mother truly wants a relationship with her she should understand this and agree to a guardianship with respect to the money. Again, it is about the money and IF you dig a little deeper you will find alot of answers. In the end….this should be about the best interest of Sharona and the MONEY if managed will give her a good life. Thank you for your fine work. I look forward to hearing more about this. I have been in elder healthcare for over 15 years and abuse is an issue that unfortunately will remain silent without people like you.
Thank you

I find it interesting that people consider a conversion to Christianity a “brain-washing”.
From what I gather, Sharona was “kicked out” of her mother’s home. I assume this was because Sharona has accepted Yeshua as her Messiah. Many faithful and steadfast Jews come to this decision on their own, and are not accepted in Israel because of it. They still celebrate the Sabbath and worship in their temples. If her caregivers had been Orthodox Jews, and the same thing happened, would their religion or place of worship be questioned? At all?
Something to consider:
- Is it ok with her mother for Sharona to be a Christian, or at best, a Messianic Jew? Will her mother accept her belief in Yeshua as the Christ? Can they live together in harmony, respecting eachother’s beliefs?
In my opinion, this is less about a church, or about money, but more about someone’s aversion to their daughter’s independance and new faith. I don’t see how either of which should be an issue at all. If neither party wants a claim to her trust fund, then it’s not a question of money at all. Someone should ask Sharona’s mother if she could live with her daughter, and her daughter’s new faith. I wonder what her answer will be.

THAT CHURCH IS CONTROLING, AND IF ANY ONE REALLY KNOWS HOW THEY REALLY OPERATE IT’S LIKE THE MOB, YOU DO NOT SPEAK AGAINST THE CHURCH, BUT IF YOU REALLY PLACE A HIDDEN CAMERA IN THE CHURCH THEY REALLY ONLY TALK ABOUT MONEY COUNTLESS SERMONS ON GIVING AWAY YOUR MONEY EVERYTHING-YOUR HOMES CARS, LAND STOCKS BONDS, EVEN YOUR CHECKS FROM YOUR JOB-WHILE HIS SHEEP SUFFER AS THE PASTOR AND PICKED OUT STAFF LIVE IT UP. JUST TO SEE THEIR VISION FULFILLED-YES THEY ARE CONTROLING. THIS IS REALLY ABOUT MONEY WHY NOT INVESTIGATE WHERE DOES ALL THAT MONEY GO? and what ever happened to all the people who left because THE CHURCH WAS controling and twisted THE bible THAT’S WHAT SHARONA’S MOM MEANS. People have to be careful that The bible is being preached Sharona needs her family WHO EVER THAT MAY BE AND God. The bible does say the truth will set you free-so maybe the church needs to be accountable for their actions. Let’s all be honest — this is all about Jesus. 2000 years later He still can change a life. I praise God she found the Lord.
As God’s Word says — “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[d] that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”[e] 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f]

Shame on Eyewitness News and anyone else who would put Sharona’s personal business out to the world in this shameful way! I attend ICLV and have heard Sharona laugh and praise the Lord with such joy and enthusiasm. She is an encouragement to all. Since her attendance began at ICLV, no one knew about her financial situation or cared. But now I pray God will send ministering angels to protect her from any harm that could come from this not-so-well-thought-out reporting. We at ICLV believe in God’s word and power to heal, so what’s wrong with that! I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that He will bless Sharona with safety and a miraculous healing. When this happens, I wonder what the reports will say then! Glory to God! I pray Psalm 70 for you Sharona! Nothing’s impossible for God!

I met Sharona about a year ago at ICLV. My impression of her was a precious teen who needed a lot of love and that is exactly what the Pastors and congregation of ICLV have done…love her dearly.
I have taken several Bible Study classes with Sharona since last October and have watched her become a beautiful rose out of a little bud. I have never seen Sharona’s appearance to be anything less than sparkling clean and neat and believe me this teen can eat! I have never seen her appear to be drugged. Sharona is a very strong willed young lady and knows what she wants.
Sharona is always there with a compassionate word for the hurting and with a cheerful smile and hello for all she meets. She drives her wheelchair like a Nascar racer around the church and through the halls laughing and praising God.
Sharona gave testimony about winning her court battle to the church congregation one Sunday last year. That was the last I ever heard of it. If Sharona is continuing to go through storms with the courts and her mother she certainly doesn’t talk about it to everyone at church. I had no idea about the $2 Million you speak of and I’ll bet most of our congregation didn’t know the amount. I pray that no one viewing your report gets any ideas of hurting this young girl now that the amount of money is out.
The Pastor’s and congregation of ICLV have worked very hard to spread the love of Jesus in Las Vegas by helping to give a new life to many ladies of the night who want to change, assisting pregnant women with shelter, feeding needy families, by distributing home care products such as toilet paper and diapers to families in trouble, feeding and clothing the homeless, paying for utility and rents/mortgages from the benevolence fund. I have been going to ICLV for the past 5 years and I can assure you there is no brainwashing or asking of money. There is only love, encouragement, help, and kindness. I encourage all of you to go to ICLV.com and view the website, especially our Pastor’s response to your report.
I believe the court case between Sharona and her mom should stay in the courtroom and not be tried in the media.
God Bless

If there has ever been an example of the facts flowing through an interpretive grid so that the public would come to a false conclusion, your reporting regarding this young woman and your portrayal of the International Church of Las Vegas is a classic case. This report is so filled with bias against ICLV and Evangelical Christians in general that it would be in the public interest to have a reputable investigation team like Frontline or a major university school of journalism investigate the way in which this report was narrated and edited; namely to make ICLV look as bad as possible.
This young woman has been an inspiration to many at ICLV and I am sure to her Jewish community. She has dreams and hopes like all young persons. She is intelligent and coherent. Is it possible that she may have wanted to be impancipated from her mother? I see tonight someone finally asked Sharona. Did she not go to court? Did not the judge rule in her favor? Why was this not mentioned in the “investigative report”?
What is the investigative team pretending not to know? Why is the church the center of attention regarding a court decision? Why has the investigative reporting not focused on the judge if the ruling was so out of line with the law?
If Sharona asked for assistance from one of her friends and stated that she did not want to be institutionalized or with her mother but rather wanted the chance to be emancipated on her own terms, would they not have come to her aide?
Is Sharona’s Trust Fund the only means of her mother’s income? I don’t know, I’m just asking? Why has this not been explored? Why is the mother exempt from scrutiney regarding the manner in which the trust fund was managed?
I am certain that ICLV does not want Sharona’s money nor do they need it. As a matter of fact, until your report, I am positive few if any, had the slightest knowledge that she had a trust fund for her care. She comes and goes as she pleases at ICLV like any other person who attends. She has always been free to sit wherever she wants, go wherever she wants, and participate to whatever degree she chooses. Anyone’s accusation of ICLV as participating in or creating an atmosphere where “brainwashing” can occurr is so patently false that I find the accusation itself evil. Anyone is free to respectfully disagree and have debate regarding any and all matters of theology and Biblical interpretation with the Pastors, the Board and or sectional leaders of the fellowship of affiliate churches.
Furthermore, any voting member of the church is free to make an appointment to look at the financial statements and accounting practices of the church. All financials statements are audited yearly. The church does not need Sharona’s money.
The investigative team’s theological ignorance regarding the practices of Christianity of the first century church and throughout the last 2000 years is so apparent that you should at least admit you are not intellectually equipped nor were you prepared to comment on healing through the laying on of hands or other gifts of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps it would be advisable to visit other congregations especially our Catholic brethren to see if they believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The practice is now quite “mainstream” in Christian circles.
What if ICLV were a Catholic Church, would it be getting the same treatment regarding our theology? I think not.
Tonight, Sharona has come foward and told her side of the story, will it be enough? What if after all of the public and private scrutiney, it is found that Sharona, at her request, asked the church for help and they simply fulfilled their Christian obligation to help someone in need? Will you report that also with the same passion and marketing as the present story? Your report stated that the church has never asked her for money, yet her mother insists on continuing to make these claims. Will your investigative team hold her accountable for proof of her accusations?
If you find ICLV only had compassion for someone that was hurting as a person, will you come to ICLV and apologize? Now that would be a miracle would it not?
Your investigative team was irresponsible in that it arranged the narrative in such a way that it did not do justice to all of the facts available for the report. Let us all ask ourselves these questions; If Sharona were perfectly healthy physically, would we not believe her regarding her allegations of abuse? She is not mentally challenged, so why is she not free to make her own choices regarding her care or her religious faith?
It is our own prejudices regarding physically challenged people that filter our thinking regarding what is possible. Just because someone is physically challenged does not mean they don’t have a great mind. All things are possible as far as Sharona is concerned. Sharona is trying to teach us all a great truth; “I have not been given a spirit of fear but of, power and love and of a sound mind”.
All she wants is a chance to inspire others to a greater destiney than we thought we were entitled to. We should all give her the opportunity to continue to inspire us to greatness.

I cannot believe that people would stoop so low to attack International Church Of Las Vegas for there generosity they give to all there members. I went to ICLV maybe 13 years ago to watch a play called heavens gates, hells flames and I then left and never went back till I found myself and family in need. It has been 4 years now and we regularly attend along with my 6 year old child. To say that the church doesn’t ” accept” cancer, Multiple Sclerosis or any other illness is wrong. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I have never felt but relief when prayed for. I feel that prayer has a way with people because they know that God Hears all and Sees all as well so if he can heal the blind, why not have the faith and believe. I struggled to find a school for my child and I decided to send her to ICA at ICLV for preschool and I can see what a young woman she is blossoming into and that has to be due to the loving, caring, support of the school and facilty. She is now in 1st grade and can feel the love of Jesus Christ and teaches me, so this whole situation is a choice and not an involvement of anyone, so I feel they need to stop pointing fingers at the ones who just care so deeply for this young lady and the rest of the congregation and get to the source of the real problem. My Church loves all who come in those doors and no one is treated differently because of there needs, that is just not how the pastor or staff do things. I guess if you question the love in a place, then you need to visit that place and then make your own assumption and not the assumption of a upset parent. ICLV has given me the strength to go day by day and not fall back on my illness because as I look at our pastor and see his own pain it makes you feel his love and power for others. I ask that you take our church name out of direct line because it seems to be the matter between both the daughter and the mother. I pray for the mother and that they get a good relationship once again because that is what my ICLV has taught me to do. Never judge, just pray and he shall answer, but it never says he can answer all prayers at once either, it is in HIS time not OURS. So, if they have to battle, then so be it, but just remember that ICLV accepts all mankind, illness, and will try to help you in any possible way they can. They offer a wide load of classes, but I have never seen the word $$$$ to take A class.

i just reada this story and heard about it through my boyfriend.
It is really odd…there can be 4 reasons..
either
A. the mother is worried about her daughters well being
b. sharona is being brainwashed by church because they see her as a little pot of gold…
c. mother is heartless and just wants money.
d. church is really watching out for her best interests.
I think i would believe that her mother who has taken care of her all her life and has been up and down with her daughter fighting her horrible condition would more likely be watching out for her daughter’s best interests.
the church is just a church and just because they follow the lord..does not mean that they have no evil intentions of getting her to ..donate money to them for whatever reasons….good or bad.
I honestly think that others are influening her….SHUNNING everyone around her is ENOUGH EVIDENCE of influence and control.
Influnces are created when something is at stake..that is…money!!!
the church itself may not be involved…but the followers there…ARE!
SO.. i am not saying the church is bad…however..the followers around her…may have interests.

Bottom line….. 19 years old means she is an adult. You people who say you know this girl are acting like she is a 10 year old Child. Your acting like she has no mind of her own and I think that is disgusting!!!!!!! She has a right to make her own choices regarding HER faith. Who cares if it is not something that You believe in. Maybe you need to take a look at your life and wonder who is the center of it. If its not the lord than I feel sorry for you. Choosing not to see her mother is her OWN choice. Nobody knows what happend between her mother and her. I highly doubt that one day she just said “I don’t think I’m going to talk to my mother anymore.” Doesn’t that sound kind of odd? I would like to know what everyone thinks ICLV is doing to this girl. It’s a church…people. Everyone is commenting on the church and “They need to stop what THEY are doing to this poor girl.” Soooooo.. what exactly are THEY doing? Obviously nothing. This is just a young woman who has some issues with her mother. Let it be and leave ICLV out of it. They have done nothing wrong. I am very sad to see these angry lost people attacking a church. It’s pretty low. Maybe they should get up on Sunday and attend. Good luck Sharona!!! Keep going to church and don’t let anyone discourage you from anything you do or believe in. You are an adult and everyone should treat you like one. It’s your choice.

I noticed your headline “Las Vegas Woman Fights Religious Group to Save Her Daughter.” I thought the mom was suing her daughter over a trust fund. How does this translate to fighting the church? If the mom truly wants relationship with her daughter, is going to court the best expression of love that she can muster? Somehow, I can understand why Sharona would want her freedom from mom and that she would be drawn to a better expression of love given to her by a “Religious Group.”

This story no more involves the church than the man in the moon. The Church is a SAFE HAVEN for Sharona.
Now that Sharona is over 18, her mother and the OTHERS cannot LEGALLY keep Sharona under GUARDIANSHIP, unless they make Sharona look INCOMPETENT and lock her away like some crazy animal that is…and/or make her look like she has joined a wacky religious group or cult. Has anyone looked to see who her GUARDIAN(S) really are on paper…who controls her TRUST fund…HUGE CLUES THERE!!! My guess is that Sharona is at UMC,locked away so that the REAL people behind the scenes can run to the news, concoct a story like this, all to divert the attention AWAY from what they have been doing to Sharona and a ton of others for far to long. They MUST contain the secrets relative to the truth about how GUARDIANSHIPS really work and WHO is really behind it all!!!

I’m in the accounting business and have seen the bookkeeping for a number of churches in Las Vegas. I will not say which ones, but they are well known. On a monthly basis, the people on the payroll not only take paychecks but get housing allowances and full use of church’s credit cards. I am a born again Christian and the first time I did the monthly accounting of one of these churches, I cried at my desk at what they were doing in Jesus’ name. My hair has stood on end seeing how much money these people take home annually, then when I have attended services at these same churches, listened to them stand in front of the congregation and beg for money in God’s name. BTW, I have attended ICLV, before their name change when they were West Valley Assembly of God.
I’m not saying all churches are like this. There are many dedicated churches and ministers right here in Las Vegas doing wonderful things in God’s name. But knowing what I do, I would not be surprised to hear that this church is cultivating this girl for her trust fund.

How ICLV is described in this report is such a lie- no one is after anyone’s money, the people who want to give to GOD give freely as they want-
As far as “chanting”- I’m just a member but I’ve never found myself or anyone else “chanting” so I’m not sure what Mr. Knapp is referring to; laying of hands- yes, according to the bible. Speaking in tongues - yes and so would you if you were filled with the Holy Spirit.
To not accept sickness- no one is denying if someone is sick but we do not believe that it’s God’s perfect will and do pray for healing- I did not deny that my son was sick and close to death and ignore the situation- but my husband and I and many people who prayed at ICLV sure did not accept this as his destiny and I’m glad because God did heal him.
I do not believe for a second that anyone at ICLV is after Sharona or any trust fund- we all love seeing her as she particpates as an usher, greeter, is in productions, and inspires many others to get involved more as we see her enthusiasm despite disadvantages. She always looks happy.
Whatever - ICLV is a place where we believe God, and love God and one another and as a result people do get healed, blessed, set free, and miracles of all kinds do occur- And the presence of God IS there and the bible teaches that the things of God are not readily received or understood by unbelieving people- so this is nothing new.
I know we all who are a part of ICLV love the people of LV and are committed to reaching out to and providing a safe place where anybody can go and be loved and be in an atmosphere of faith that will encourage and strengthen them to believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord and be set free of things that hurt them- It’s no suprise that Sharona or anyone else wants to be a part of this church.

I have worked behind the scenes in the AG church and I can honestly say from my own experiences it is more often than not, all about the money.
It is unfortunate that the new team of “men of GOD?” have lost their direction in leading the true church.
I have seen the almighty pastor allow a traveling hermit of a man, enter in the fellowship, become “family” with the congregation, then swiftly take his $15000 life savings and sale his only home. His motorhome.
The pastor will justify his actions, but the truth is church took the money.
Was this money used in helping the needy? No,those who need of monetary help are turned away. They do hand out food, but that is because the congregation brings the food at no cost to the church.
Yes,the money was used… purchases for their preformance center. Poor witness of what the church is to be for the community.
They rob him of his whole being while he was needed a little health care. In the end he had nothing but a wheelchair. Nice!
I say investigate more and you will see more. The deeper you look you will uncover layers of monatary abuse by leadership especially in the AG church. Look to the Distirct and you’ll be amazed what you find. There is something to connect. Go George! Correct the wrong!

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Romans 1:16 (NIV)
Now with that being said…. Check into mind altering techniques. Could playing a certain type of music, for more than 30-45 minutes, loud and rythmic, colors flashing everywhere, then asking people to close their eyes, filling them with words of suggestion, could this be a form of brainwashing? There is something going on there. Senior Pastor was a psychologist or psychiatrist, so knows how to manipulate. The Judge pointed out that Sharona was perhaps susceptable to this type of manipulation.
Also, people who give more, are favored more. ICLV will check their tithing books before lending money to those in need. (ie: rent, or utilities) If you have not been a good tither they will tell you. They will also point out your life of sin as the reason for your situation.
Gifting is asked for. Suggestions of changing your will, leaving your estate to ICLV. Heirlooms, car, boats, vacation homes, etc. They are wanting to build 5 more campuses in Las Vegas. So, I do feel they have gotten greedy and perhaps leaning more and more towards money.
The blog poster named Robyn is one of their Pastors. So that sort of makes her prejudiced and probably not the best witness.
Keep looking into this matter please. It is people like you that can bring to light things that need to be exposed. People have been hurt by this church, and yes people have been helped. I would like to see you investigate thoroughly, as all positions are held by family members, or very close friends to the pastor. It should be looked into.
I do pray for a healing of Sharona and her family and friends. I know my family would pitch a fit if I choose to become Jewish, and leave my Christian faith, but I do believe time can heal all wounds. And this too shall pass.

Good Afternoon,
I am writing in regards to your story about ICLV and Sharona, that aired on the 11 o clock news last night. Quite frankly i was shocked at the lack of editorial oversight of this story, it painted a picture of the church as trying to manipulate Sharona for financial gain, and that it was putting her physical situation in jeopardy also. With even a small amount of investigation, or regard for the truth you could have learned the reality of the situation, all it would have taken was a call to the Attorney that represented her in her case against her Mother,or an attempt at understanding just how much that ICLV does for the hurting and the lost of Las Vegas, so as to gather a little insight, but it seems in your haste to smear the church you created your own demise. Sharona is an awesome young woman whom is intelligent, vibrant and full of life, its a shame that you would treat her condition as if she were helpless and unable to think, or make rational decisions on her own, she has physical limitations not mental limitations. If you would have held the story until speaking to her you would have not made yourselves look like such cretins!

I had never been more saddened by a news report. I am a news buff but was dissapointed by this coverage. So, I guess now you can go to the news with an emotional, one-sided story and call it truth. I greatly fear if this is the new wave of news coverage. The biased of channel 8 towards an emotional mother had made me lose respect for channel 8. I see Sherona every week and find that she is one of the most joyful people I see. I don’t believe no one knew about the money. Unfortunately, now most of Las Vegas does. Also, If Ms. Perez, the caregiver, wanted her money, don’t you think she would still be around? If ICLV wanted her money don’t you think there would be evidence of it? ICLV is blessed because they are a blessing, not because they are greedy. Channel 8’s secrecy and deception in covering this story is unerving. They should have called an asnked the leadership of that church for permission to film instead of bringing in a hidden camera. There is nothing to hide but there is a right way to do things. I feel sorry for Sherona because her mother’s choice to air there personal dispute is now so public and she has to deal with this.
I am going to be watching FOX news now.

I have attended ICLV:
They use a lot of $ pressure, I received 1 year ago a letter showing me how much I hadn’t given to “their vision” I laughed and sent an e-mail of complaint “what, am I getting a bill from church too?”, that’s all they talk about for about 1/2 the time.
The other half is a good one the gospel is ministered and it truly is one of the best churches I know in that aspect.
I believe this is coming out as a chastiment from God to stop being so money hungry, so that the church can truly spiritually grow.
PS> Yes Robin is a “pastor” all she talks about is shopping.
My mom (who doesn’t go to ICLV) was w/ Sharona Tue and she said she was all alone when she was there….the media is biased against the church.

I know someone like that too:
He became a Christian and…
He stopped going to mass.
He stopped seing his family including his mom*.
He stopped seeing his friends (broke up w/ a good looking and rich girlfriend)
He gave almost all of his money to church.
He stopped going out:smoking, gambling, drinking, cursing and doing drugs.
He practically lived at church.
This person is my husband and he is a happier, richer, healthier and better person because of Jesus Christ.
Unless you see the light you will call him a fool.
*His mom WAS very controlling, at age 30 she still took him to the doctor and held his hand!, praise God she is saved now.

As a person who has attended ICLV for over a decade, I can affirm that, while my church is not perfect (and what church is?), it is far from being a manipulative, cult-like organization that brainwashes people into leaving their families, cutting themselves off from their friends or mindlessly surrendering their money. To the contrary, ICLV is a place where love and forgiveness is consistently preached and demonstrated, family unity is encouraged, and money is given as a free-will offering in order to support outreaches and ministries that benefit people all over the world.
Nor are we a group of wild-eyed fanatics who spend all of our waking hours practicing bizarre rituals within the “confines” of our church. If some of us spend a lot of time at ICLV, it’s because we enjoy the love, acceptance, fellowship and fun we find there. Most importantly, we enjoy the wonderful presence of God we feel whenever we are at this church.
We do not discriminate against those who are physically, mentally or emotionally challenged, but welcome all types of human beings as the precious creations of God they are. We do not refuse to accept the reality of disease, but believe we should do everything we can to fight it. That could include seeking medical help or psychological counseling as well as practicing a healthy lifestyle. But we also believe that God can and does heal people, and we regularly participate in the time-honored and biblical practices of praying for one another, laying on of hands, and anointing with oil.
There are many people at ICLV who have been miraculously healed—not just physically but emotionally and mentally—and I am one of them. Whenever our pastor asks for a show of hands of those in our congregation who have been healed by God, at least 90 percent of the people respond in the affirmative. (By the way, we don’t believe or teach that you have to give money to the church in order to get healed! The God we serve is a God of lavish grace and limitless compassion who delights in giving good gifts to His children.)
I don’t know Sharona well, but we did attend the same Sunday school class for a while, and I do see her every Sunday as she carries out her duties as a volunteer greeter. My impression is that she is an intelligent adult with a very independent mind and that she is quite capable of making her own decisions. She is treated with affection and respect, if not downright admiration, for the courage, energy and joy she always displays, in spite of her physical condition.
She apparently has many good friends at ICLV, and they seem to be people who genuinely love and care for Sharona. If they sometimes appear to hover over her (and I can’t say I have seen any examples of this), it is probably simply because they want to be available to her in case she needs something. After all, as mentioned in the report, there are some things Sharona can’t do without assistance.
As for the reports that Sharona appears unkempt or “out of it,” I have never witnessed any such thing. She always looks well-groomed and alert. In fact, she usually looks quite happy. She even sounds happy. (Whenever something in the worship service moves her, you can hear her enthusiastic and joyful whoop all over the sanctuary—kind of her way of saying, “Amen!” or “Praise the Lord!”)
I don’t know the inside story on what has happened between Sharona and her mother, and it’s really no one’s business but the parties directly involved. But I know that many things are not the way this one-sided report makes them appear. If Ms. Perez (doesn’t this woman have a first name?) was so interested in stealing Sharona’s money, why is she no longer around? As for Sharona’s new friends at ICLV, I know several of them and can’t imagine any of them wanting to take her money or harm her in any way. As for the leadership of the church, our senior pastor recently volunteered to stop receiving a salary from ICLV. Why would a man who has chosen to work for free turn around and try to extort trust fund money from a young woman like Sharona?
The funny thing is, most of us weren’t even aware of Sharona’s trust fund or the details of her personal life until her own mother—with Channel 8’s help—decided to make it all public knowledge. As a mother, I can’t imagine humiliating my daughter by airing our family’s dirty laundry on television or possibly even putting her in danger by telling the world how much money she has. Nor can I imagine ever calling my daughter a non-person. These things alone speak volumes to me about Joan Albstein’s character and motives.
If Sharona has chosen to cut off her relationship with her mother and some of her past friends, I’m sure she has her reasons…and I’m sure they are her own reasons. I seriously doubt she is as gullible as many seem to think she is. Of course, her new-found faith teaches forgiveness and, if she hasn’t already done so, I’m sure that, in time, the Lord will help her forgive anyone who has done her wrong. Forgiveness, however, does not always mean complete reconciliation—particularly in cases where there has been an abusive or unhealthy relationship.
If Sharona has chosen to embrace a faith other than the one in which she was brought up, her choice should be respected. She is a bright, well-educated adult with the constitutional right to freedom of religion. Surely we are not ignorant enough to believe that because she is physically challenged, she is somehow not allowed to grow up and make her own life choices, or that physical limitations render her incapable of sound judgment.
In conclusion, I extend an invitation to George Knapp and anyone else who believes Sharona is being victimized by evangelical Christianity or by ICLV and its members: Do a little real investigative reporting. Attend a few services at ICLV with an open mind. Observe Sharona with your own eyes. Meet and talk with some of the members and the staff of the church. Visit ICLV’s website (www.ICLV.com). Check out a few books and learn something new about the orthodoxy of such practices as: supporting the local church through the giving of time and money; the laying on of hands; speaking in tongues; and offering prayers for the sick. The book of Acts in the Bible might be a good place to start.
Once you have done some genuine research, you may or may not like what you find, but I think you will see that the I-Team story was a far cry from true investigative reporting. It was sloppy journalism that failed to answer too many questions. What’s more, it didn’t even ask the right questions. It was filled with emotional and even inflammatory speech, designed to bias the viewer against evangelical Christianity in general and ICLV in particular. Indeed, this story falls more in the category of sensationalism or gossip, obviously designed to attract, entertain, and influence viewers rather than to objectively discover and responsibly report the truth. Shame on Channel 8 and George Knapp. You can do better.

Maybe ch 8 should do a story on Steve Wynn’s Casino Empire and how he lures helpless gambling addicts into the casinos with promises of financial gain while he intoxicates and disables them to a clouded way of thinking. These helpless people giving away all their money while the state and Steve Wynn laugh all the way to the bank. But no!! Our society sees these things as acceptable….But when a person wants to spend 3 days a week in church, being led by the holy spirit as I am, we are brainwashed and “forced”. I give because God has given to me the ability to earn money and help others. I praise him because He has given me a voice to speak. All I do is for Him, because without Him I would be a lost. God has great things to come out of this,Sherona’s mother and George Napp’s salvation is on it’s way! Praise God! They will be in church with us one day!

I would like to see a uncut sharona interview rather than 12 min. of the mom and her lawyer. But I dont think you will ever allow it.
What happen to equal time? She did a interview and all you showed was two comments.
Why not release a transcript of sharona’s comments and post it on the web ?
I think early on news 8 decided to back a mom and sink a church, why ?
This story is as slanted as a Cal. mudside.
But Jesus still loves you so do I.

1) Sharona was NEVER kicked out of her house.
2) Perez left once she found out there was no money $$
3) I have been to the church, all they talk about is money and they send you BILLS and try to make you feel bad if you cant pay.
4) Thank you CHANNEL - keep showing the truth
5)Joan never would ever lay a hand on Sharona, EVER, that is a lie. This is absolutely killing her mother.
6) and not because of the religion, because her daughter is not in her life. If sharona was in her mothers life, she would care about religion. She loves her daughter UNCONDITIONALLy.

Joan and her family spent more money (2 million, plus)on all the care and medical care for Sharona growing up, They spent more money on her through her lifetime than her trust fund is even worth!
If you think this is about money or religion you are wrong. It is about LOVE and the heartache her mother feels being without her daughter.

My comment on this matter,,Is I think the mother needs to ease up..Think of it this way, her daughter is not into drugs, drinking or gambling..Church has never hurt anyone..I raised my children in a church very very much like this one and my children were thankful for that and grow up to be a very good son and daughter..And in church to this day and raising their children in church..This is a positive thing and not something negitive..I know this church and have a friend that goes to this church..He seems to be a nice respectful man..I am also a born again christian..ANd church has helped me become a better and stronger person..I think the daughter is going in the right direction..After all she is old enough to make her own decison..i think the mother needs to respect her daughters wishes..Thank you..Charlotte

I just want to say that ICLV is a wonderful Church Family. I have attended for almost 8 1/2 years. Have they been perfect no. But no church is perfect because we are not perfect. As for the mother and daughter I Believe that it’s time for mom to let go and allow sharona to make he own decisions. I have a daughter that is 19 not as sick as Sharona. but lives at home and I am learning that I need to let go and let GOD..
Have faith that He will watch over her no matter whete she is or goes..
P.S. May GOD bless you Joan

For Erika Rios Your question
“Also, If Ms. Perez, the caregiver, wanted her money, don’t you think she would still be around?”
NO when the going gets tough the CONS get going.

I feel sorry for those who are out there who do not see a confused girl. The girl had dreams of becoming a teacher and doing things with her life. HOW DARE YOU talk bad about Sharona mother. I bet half of you never even met Sharona before this horrendous thing happened to her. Sharona was not kept locked up like some of you assume. She had her own part of a house, sort of like an apartment way from her mother. Keeping her hovered by those who had just met her, but not be anything bad.. I feel so bad for Sharona that she has people “speaking on her behalf” .. people that dont even know the real her. I find it equally disgusting that you would say that a friend of Sharona’s since they were both 7 years old didnt know what she is talking about ..

I attended an Easter “Theatrical Production” at ICLV with my daughter after being urged to do so repeatedly by my child’s teacher (we were given tickets by this teacher). Once there, we were bombarded with requests for money, money, money! The production, which was supposedly aimed at all ages, was so violent and graphic that my daughter started crying and we had to leave early. I was so put off by this church that I would not be surprised if they are participating in questionable behavior to get Sharona’s money. The Almighty Dollar appears to be their motivating factor.

First off, people that say the mother should “ease off” or “let go”. It is not about that, she hasn’t seen Sharona, or talked to Sharona in years. The first time she has even seen or heard of her was this interview! How do you think that must feel like to not know if your daughter is alive and well (especially in her condition) and to see her for the first time on TV. Joan went to Channel 8 almost as a last resort kind of thing, she misses Sharona and wants the best for her. Please Sharona, Please Sharona just pick up the phone and call your mom. Your dont have to live with her, you dont have to stop going to church, just call her. Start some kind of relationship with her. Because at this point she has been told you do not want to see her or she cant see you. Thanks Channel 8! Keep up the fight Joan!

Imagine this….
ALl of the family and friends you grew up with for 18 years…GONE, gone out of your life!! Just cut of all people that love and care about you. Do you not see this as being somewhat strange people?? All of these friends and family care and love her and they have been CUT OFF?
You think these people from a church would be trying to help her instead of isolate her.
Yes, god cares about Sharona, but that church doesnt. Her family and friends are there with open arms. Please Sharona do the right thing.

Wow! I can’t believe how distorted things and get. I attended the Easter production as well as the person with an earlier blog and this is what I know for a fact. ICLV took up 1 collection, just one! and the only thing that visitors were asked to do, on a volunter basis was fill out a card with their name and contact information, if they wanted someone to conatact them with more information on the Church or for prayer and to place that in the offering bucket. NOT MONEY! ICLV is a missionary Church and feed the hungry, cloth the homeless, they have a hospital ministry to minister to the sick, they go out and minister to the prostitues and dancers. Not only do they minister to them, they will help them get off the streets and train them in a respectful profession,. They are the most loving and giving Church I have ever been to. They are a healing Church, however, never do they recommend that someone stop taking their medication or to stop seeing a DR. When a healing takes place the Dr. will let yu know you no longer need the meds and so on. If you don’t know first hand what ICLV is all about, you are welcome to attend and find out, you won’t be turned away, but welcomed with love, no matter who you are. They won’t judge you for we have all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. Yes, a persons personilty does change when they truly find JESUS. I am not a member of ICLV, though I have attended Church there for several years. God Bless you all.

I notice that most of the comments from the church members are very long — perhaps they protest too much? (Also, I am amazed at the many spelling errors, which say something about the intelligence of the writers.) I have been a neighbor of Sharona and her mother for the past five years, and I have always admired Joan’s devotion to and care for her daughter. Joan always spoke of Sharona with love and pride in her accomplishments, and often expressed the hope that Sharona could achieve a career and be independent inasmuch as that would be possible considering her disabilty. Furthermore, if this church Sharona is now involved with is truly “Christian,” why aren’t they trying to achieve a reconciliation between mother and daughter? Wouldn’t that be the Christian thing to do? Instead, I understand they put the mother on a “no-visit” list, which really smacks of CULT!
A final point — the former pope, John, when asked to baptize Jewish children in Poland during the war, refused, choosing instead to allow them the dignity of their birth faith. I don’t think much of this church in Las Vegas that was so eager to baptize an obviously emotionally vulnerable young lady. I have not mentioned the “m” word — money — but come on, that’s got to be a major motivation here. The whole thing is sad — Sharona might want to achieve her independence, as a normal progression of coming into adulthood, but this church has stepped in and complicated the entire situation, which might have otherwise resolved into a reconciliation between mother and daughter. I hope that is still possible, because Joan and Sharona are remarkable people, and they certainly don’t deserve any more suffering than they have already been subjected to in this life. Shame on you Pastor’s and ICLV, for GOD will not be mocked! I too attended West Valley Assembly and ICLV many years ago, and was told to NEVER come back (where’s the love of Jesus and forgiveness there). I believe that ICLV has lost their way, there is Pastor worship, money, contolling and more money. All they really care about is money and filling seats for more money to support the lavish lifestyles of their so-called Pastors. ICLV has left out the most important thing in christianity, Jesus Christ. Yes, ICLV does love you if you give lots of money, but if your poor, oh well. Sharona would be wise to find another church to attend. My prayers go out to Sharona’s mother.

This dispute should be properly deliberated in court with a judge not the whole Las Vegas valley. Now, everyone who views your news cast knows Sharona, her personal and financial difficulties. Viewers also think ICLV church is a brainwashing cult and just wants your money. The report was done with hidden cameras and without seeking the Pastors comments on the matter. I am sure you have hurt this pastor and the ICLV church. This was defamation of character on your part and needs a pesonal apology from channel 8 news. I would like to see someone attend the church and talk to the pastor for his view of what happened.

I would just like to weigh in on how saddened I am by this report. First and foremost my heart goes out to Sharona…clearly the legal issues and the strained relationship with her mother is something no one should have to go through. I pray for her and her mother for a reconcilliation.
As for ICLV being portrayed as a church that does not believe in medicine and is one that is all about the dollar I laugh at those accusations. The Pastor himself had his son and daughter treated by doctors for ailments…along with prayer from the congregation. I guess Mr Knapp should just ignore that because it does not tie in with his “Facts”.
Additionally, painting ICLV as a money grubbing entity is completely false. The offerings help so many people in many different ways. There is a weekly homeless feed at one location, food baskets for the less fortunate, and outreaches in the inner city giving kids school supplies. Bottomline, if you do not have money for offering then you are not shunned or pushed away…people will pray for your prosperity without a selfish thought.
ICLV has saved many lives and has poured more into me than I can convey with words. It is unfortunate that the church is being slandered in such a way. I can’t speak for everyone at ICLV, but the battle that Sharona is going through is a larger concern that the misleading reporting Mr Knapp did. Just shows the underhanded nature in which this was reported. Services are routinely broadcast on local cable, so it is not as if ICLV has anything to hide, but the principal of the I-Team sneaking a camera man into a service is low.
My heart goes out to Sharona and I am proud of the growth she has made.
I am proud to be a member of ICLV and fully support my pastor, Pastor Paul Goulet, and all the associate pastors that work on the staff. Thanks for everything that you all do.

Today is the national day of prayer.
I prayer that spirit of Elijah would come and turn the hearts of parents to childeren,
and the hearts of childeren to parents.
I pray that God would heal Sharona.
That she would meet a nice man get married and have childeren.
That would make a lot of these issues disappear.
Let these present realities be overcome by God’s goodess.
He is Good and His mercy indures forever.
Amen and I pray that you also can say amen.

This is a Mother who flew Sharona to Hungary for months at a time to get the best possible therapy for her. Sought out the best doctors possible in NY to treat her cancer, hip surgeries, eye surgeries. Fought with the school systems here to get Sharona the best education and to be treated equally as abled children. A Mother who was left by Sharona’s Father to go it alone. Who’s given up much of her own life for the love of her daughter. Yes very abusive.
This is not about her choice of religion it is about others controling her and keeping her from those of us who loved and protected her since birth.
Where is her court appointed Guardian? Why is Sharona sitting in UMC waiting to be “placed” somewhere? Who are the REAL abusers?

“With everything going on in the world today, violence, the war, etc., maybe if we had the presnece of god in our lives and our children’s lives the world would be a better place.”
***Unfortunately, people do believe they have the presence of an omnipotent being in their lives, waiting to judge their actions and dictate where they belong in the afterlife. This is PRECISELY why a war even exists at this present time. You must be forgetting that nearly 9/10 people on Earth believe in some form of god. Will the violence suddenly end if we reach 100%?***

“The Lord has totally healed by body from disc problems and more and it has been all verified by medical doctors.”
***This brought a smile to my face. Doctors confirmed that the lord has completely healed you of ‘disc problems,’ and that the healing is verifiable (e.g. accountable). I’ll take a shot in the dark here and speculate that the list of Doctors you visited were recommended by the Church, through the Church or are in someway affiliated with Christianity.
Why has the lord failed to heal somebody with ALS? Why has it failed to regrow a limb on an amputee or completely cure SMA? Why did the lord choose to heal you, but not Sharona? Is Sharona undeserving of the lord’s healing touch?
Why did the lord heal your ‘disc problems,’ but still leave you in a delusional mindset?***

This is the hour in which the enemy will turn and twist things having to do with Jesus, churches and any miracle that may happen. I met this sweet girl at the church I attened until a month ago. At that time seeing her at a conference we had. Sense then we attend a training center and she has been there also. I have told you all of this because she has always been clean and looks like well taken care of. The thing that touched my heart is that she can worship and it is so moving to see a free spirited person to worship Jesus Christ, who by the way was sent soHe could lead us back to the Father. Our jewish brothers and sisters just have missed the messiah thinking he is yet to come, but know He was here and God is the only one who by the power of the Holy Spirit will you recieve this revelation. It is to bad that people what to degrade churches. Actully they should be called building because the true church is us who believe in Christ Jesus. Its sad that the media has even let it out how much money she is worth now all kind of money hunters will show up. Repentance is a good place to start, mothers daughters families etc. and all who have wrote and judged such stuff.Repentance will set you free. My bible say you will know them by theie LOVE. The news media should feel grand at all the stuff they over tell and get payed for. I wonder if they started telling the good new how their rating would go up. Now on healing it was over 12 years ago I was healed of horrible mirgrains that would put me to the floor in seconds. I was healed by a prophetic word from someone who had never met me. God heals today get ready because their will be so meaning you will not beable to keep up with it even the dead will be raised.
Now for this kind of story we will be hearing more because the church “meaning Gods people” will begin to do things and see things like they have never seen, and this world system though the new will make you think all christain are brain washed but mark these words we have the mind of Christ as we renew our mind by reading the word of God the Bible.
Brcause I love the Lord and things are happenning that are exciting my child is taking away my granddaughter because I love Jesus. Maybe this will make the news.
The word say WE WILL REAP WHAT WE SOW>
My question is what have you sowed this week last year because it will come God is a just God. REPENT THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND. Need HIM just bow your knee and say forgive me of my sins come into my life and help me believe in you Jesus.
Amen

In preparation for revival persecution arises because of righteousness sake.
But do not become offened. This is done in unknowingly by some.
Remerber while we were yet sinners Yeshua died for the ungodly. There is none rightoues no not one. All like sheep have gone astray. All have fallen short of the Glory of God.
See the work in progress and know that He is not slack conserning His promises.

In response to Daniel’s comments dated May 3, 2007, 6:15 PM:
Violence does not exist because people believe in God. It exists because people do not live according to God’s laws and choose to do evil rather than good. Also, many people who believe in God have a twisted concept of who He is and what He wants of us. And even those of us who know what He wants often fail to do the right thing.
What does He want of us? Jesus said the two most important things God wants is for us to love Him with our whole being and to love others as we love ourselves. He said all God’s other laws could be summed up by those two.
God has the right to judge us because He is our Maker and because He is perfect in every way, but the Bible says He doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He wants all of us to have a close, loving relationship with Him and to live with Him forever in heaven. That’s why He created us. And when the human race chose to rebel against Him instead, that’s why He sent His sinless, only-begotten Son, Jesus, to suffer in our place the punishment we deserved for our rebellion, thus satisfying the requirement for both justice and mercy simultaneously, and providing a way for us to be reconciled to God.
People don’t get into heaven because their good deeds outweigh their bad. (Thank God that’s not how it works because then none of us would qualify!) We get into heaven by asking God to forgive us for our rebellion and to give us a clean record—to make it just as if we had never sinned—which He can only do because Jesus has already paid our penalty for us. We also ask God to be reborn (or born again), so that we can start out fresh and new and transformed into people who are willing and able to follow Jesus as Lord.
However, God won’t force a relationship on anyone and He won’t force heaven on anyone. Some people choose to shut God out of their lives. Those people wouldn’t be happy in heaven anyway, because heaven is all about living eternally in God’s presence. So God allows those people to spend eternity as far away from Him as possible. That godless place is also known as hell.
Now, regarding miraculous healing: God is able to heal anything, from a broken heart to a broken arm; from a cold to cancer. Personally, I have heard testimonies of people being healed of many different things, including ALS, AIDS, fibromyalgia, asthma, arthritis, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, and other supposedly incurable diseases.
And yes, amputees have been known to grow new limbs. People missing eyes have been known to form new and functioning eyeballs. That is classified as a regenerative miracle as opposed to a healing one. Come to think of it, the senior pastor of ICLV received that kind of miracle in reverse! He had one leg that was quite a bit shorter than the other due to a bad snowmobile accident and the resulting surgery. He was in a great deal of pain because of it and the imbalance was starting to take a toll on his back. He asked someone to pray for him, and instead of lengthening the short leg, God shortened the long leg! Either way, it got the job done, and now he is just fine. (By the way, this miracle is documented by doctors, therapists and X-rays.)
In fact, lots of miracles are documented, even by objective third parties, but people who refuse to believe in miracles will not believe no matter what evidence they are shown. That’s not surprising. Even back in Jesus’ day, many did not believe in Him despite all the miracles He performed right in front of them! Some even accused Him of getting His power from the devil.
(By the way, in my experience, doctors—even non-Christian ones—are some of the first to believe in miraculous healings. Because they see so many sick people, almost all of them have seen unexplained healings. Some doctors attribute those healings to phenomena that science has just not yet been able to explain, but others have no problem giving the credit to God.)
When someone at ICLV experiences a healing miracle, the church leadership does not send that person to any doctor in particular in order to document the healing. What I have heard them recommend is that the person return to whichever doctor was already treating them for the illness, not just to receive professional confirmation that they have been healed, but to be properly released from the doctor’s care.
In answer to a prayer for healing, sometimes God heals spontaneously, instantly and dramatically. Sometimes, the healing is slow and gradual. Sometimes, He heals us through medical science, which, as far as I’m concerned, is just as big a gift from God as that which is thought of as supernatural healing. What’s more, the fact that God designed us with an immune system and a body that is constantly repairing and renewing itself is an awesome thing and one for which I am grateful to Him. Last, but not least, even those diseases or disorders that are not healed in this life will be healed in the next, and the next life lasts a whole lot longer than this one.
I pray that Sharona will be healed in this life, but if she’s not, I know that someday I will see her leaping and dancing and running through heaven. For the Bible promises that “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”
Why God chooses to heal some people quickly, others slowly and still others only after this life is over is, for the most part, a huge mystery. In many cases, He eventually allows us to see the reason behind why He does what He does. Other times, it remains a mystery. But then, as they say, if we could understand everything there is to know about God, He wouldn’t be much of a God. As the Bible tells us, His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways; His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than ours.
However, after many years of living in a relationship with God and seeing how He has worked in my own life, I have at least been able to settle this much in my mind and heart: God is almighty. God’s love is perfect, complete and unconditional. God is completely trustworthy. God never leaves us or forsakes us. Whatever He allows to happen to His children is for a reason and, in the infinite scheme of things, will somehow work for their benefit and for the advancement of His eternal plan. In other words, He is a good and all-powerful Father and I trust Him implicitly.
Recently, I went through thyroid cancer and a total hip replacement. In both cases, God chose to heal me through medical science. But he gave me a total sense of peace throughout both experiences. I felt His big, strong arms around me the whole time. The Lord also led me to wonderful doctors who did far beyond anything I could have imagined. In both cases, my recovery was extraordinarily fast and without complications of any kind.
A few years ago, when my son was a teenager, he was diagnosed with a potentially fatal heart defect. Worse still, the procedure needed to cure him was very risky in his case, because of the part of the heart affected. If the surgeon was even a tiny bit off, he could destroy the heart’s ability to keep a steady rhythm, causing my son to need a pacemaker for to the rest of his life.
Again, in spite of everything, God gave us a tremendous sense of peace, strength and reassurance that He would take care of everything. Again, we were led to the best possible doctor—the state’s leading expert in the kind of procedure my son needed to have. When the day came to take my son to the hospital and the doctor began what he expected to be a very long, delicate and difficult procedure, my husband and I went to the hospital’s chapel to pray. When we returned to the waiting room, the doctor (who was not a Christian, but apparently believed in God) approached us with a huge grin on his face. He asked where we had been. When we told him we had been praying, he said, “I knew it! I have been doing this procedure several times a day, every day, for years, and it has never been this easy and this fast. I could literally feel God’s hand guiding mine! What should have taken five hours only took fifteen minutes!” Moreover, it was a total success and my son was given a clean bill of health.
Incidentally, through my two health crises as well as my son’s, our friends and pastors from ICLV prayed for us, called us, visited us, and sent flowers and cards. Before I went into the hospital, a lady from the church who cleans houses for a living cleaned mine for free; and during my recovery, the ladies in my Bible study group brought cooked dishes to my house, so that we wouldn’t have to worry about cooking or buying meals. Those are just the sort of loving things that good Christians do for each other. But when those kinds of things are done for Sharona, our church is accused of brainwashing her, enveloping her, hovering over her and exerting some sort of manipulative hold on her.
One of the biggest miracles God did for me was to heal me emotionally. He seems to do that kind of healing in a miraculous way even more often than physical healing, maybe because He knows He’s the only one who can truly heal a broken heart, a troubled mind or a wounded soul. To protect the privacy of the people involved, I can’t go into the details about why I was in such severe emotional pain, but it was something I couldn’t imagine ever being free from, primarily because I could see no way to change the circumstances that were causing the pain.
After many helpful and inspiring sermons at ICLV; the compassionate prayers of many pastors and fellow members of ICLV; and many hours just soaking in the presence and love of God that I always feel at ICLV, the Lord healed me. He swept all the pain, rage, confusion and emptiness away, and in their place, he put love, contentment, happiness, serenity, hope and fulfillment.
And He did all that without really changing my difficult circumstances. Perhaps that is one of the biggest miracles God does for His children: He gives us a peace and a joy that is independent of our circumstances.
Just ask Sharona. She may not yet be healed physically, but it is obvious to those of us who see her at ICLV that she is filled with a joy and a peace that is not of this world. No, she hasn’t been brainwashed by a cult. And she hasn’t been deluded (as you implied we Christians are). To the contrary, she has been “un-deluded.” She has seen the truth that Yeshua, a.k.a. Jesus, is the long-awaited Messiah; that He is the only one ever to fulfill the more than 200 ancient Jewish prophecies recorded in Scripture. She has had a personal encounter with Him, come to know Him, accepted Him as Savior, acknowledged Him as Lord, and fallen madly in love with Him.
I will continue to pray for her physical healing as well as reconciliation with her mother and friends. I also pray that her mother and friends and also you, Daniel, will someday come to know, understand and experience for yourselves the wonderful relationship with God through Jesus that has blessed and transformed the lives of Sharona and so many others.

I’m not anonymous. I signed with both my first and last name. (You probably didn’t see it because my post was so long. Sorry–I’ve always been longwinded.)
As for your question–I will answer, but I’m wary as to why you want to know. I hope you aren’t looking to pigeonhole or stereotype me, because I’m way too complex for that!
Having said that, I tend to side with the young earth theory. In other words, I believe the earth is probably only between five and six thousand years old. I think the theory of evolution is just that: a theory. And I suspect the idea of an earth that is millions of years old primarily exists to give creedence to the theory, because it would take a very long time for all those evolutionary changes to take place.
However, I’m not dogmatic about any of this. I don’t think you have to believe in a young earth in order to be a good Christian. And I don’t think you have to be a Christian in order to believe in a young earth or to believe in intelligent design…or to question the theory of evolution.

I am a former ICLV “ministry school” student.
I am discouraged by the fact that the “ICLV Elite” are trying so hard to defend their church and their pastor. A good church with good people needs no defending by themselves, that is the job of God, and God alone.
I was one of the hundreds of people that were “ejected” from ICLV for “misconduct, rebellion, non-conformation to the “vision” etc.
I understand that ICLV has a “vision” to change the world, and changing the world costs money. But people there DO feel extremely PRESSURED to give, give give.
There is definitely an “elite” or “elect” group of members there that are highly favored, honored, and respected more than the rest of the body. I could name them all here, but will refrain out of respect. I know most of them personally, and odds are I carried their briefcase, or brought them water or towels, or even pulled their cars around after service on numerous occasions throughout my “servant hood” training there. If you trace the giving, you may find that this “elite” group is made up of the dominant tithers in the congregation.
There are a lot of things that ICLV does right, but a lot of things there, as it relates to the fragility of dealing with people, that are handled poorly and in an unhealthy manner on a daily basis. For instance, their since-failed “discipleship school”, Master’s Commission, has become famous nationwide for the amount of students kicked out of the program for misconduct and rebellion…aka….sin.
One of my fellow students received $7,000 from his late great Grandmother to attend MC there, and was kicked out of the program 2 years in a row on the same day for, basically, “sinning” while he was in the program. I understand that his actions were wrong, as does he, but ICLV had an INCREDIBLE opportunity to help him and countless others during this time, and chose rather to not get their hands dirty, and just ban these students from the program and the Church, after cashing their checks of course. Another worship leader in the program was kicked out for dabbling with Internet porn. Aren’t these the issues we (church) are supposed to help people overcome? Not just kick them out when they don’t learn right away or struggle with sin?
The way we young kids were treated in that program has taken a lasting toll on their lives, and most of them are not even professing Christians today, much less ministers of the Gospel. Many had children out of wedlock, some are professing and practicing homosexuals, and some are now deeply involved in the occult. Another student I went to school with is now in prison for having sex with a minor while serving as a youth pastor shortly after “graduating” from ICLV’s ministry school.
My friend never received any of his great Grandmother’s money back, but rather was given a book written by the senior pastor, and was told that by studying that book back at his home in California, he could regain acceptance and forgiveness from God, and “possibly” ICLV itself.
A lot of former members of ICLV can vouch for the “clique” vibe there. The pastors have their group of friends that they hang out with, and everyone else can’t help but feel like an outsider. Security is tight there, I can’t figure out why. I guess people have tried to kill pastors there. I read somewhere that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper”, but that won’t explain why you can’t walk up to the pastor and say hi or request a meeting with him without getting the runaround from the secretary.
Has the news looked into any of the former pastors there who cheated on their wives while ministering at ICLV? Or about spending the church’s money on TV’s, computers, and stuff for their family’s entertainment?
My friends and I have been victims of ICLV, and have never received any apologies or refunds. I’m not asking for money back that I gave. I’m asking for people there to humble themselves, look back at how they handled PEOPLE, and right their wrongs so that God can do a deep and lasting work there. I gave my money to be discipled, along with several other young people that attended there, and what we received in return was a constant feeling of “not good enough”, and like servants to the celebrity mentality that people there have of their pastor.
I know Paul Goulet personally, and have spoke with him several times. I believe he is a kind, caring person that loves his church and his Lord. My issue is NOT with him, but rather those that surround him and ultimately control the church. They treat him like a celebrity, not like a shepherd. They isolate the body and even some of the staff from him, so that “sinful people won’t defile the anointing on his life”. This is stupid. The only thing that can remove the anointing is our poor choices.
Some of my best friends still attend ICLV, and I love them and will always love them, but this story is not a surprise to me. The mentality at ICLV is that if God is doing something, He HAS to be doing it at ICLV and pretty much nowhere else. If you live in Las Vegas and are a Christian but do not attend there, you will definitely be seen as “not in touch with God’s will for your life”. That is what has driven family members against each other when it comes to that Church. If your parents go to a different Church, and you go to ICLV, you are led to believe that your parents are in the wrong, and directed to pray that they “hear God beckoning them to follow Him”.
The bottom line is: ICLV needs to realize that without people, there would be no ICLV, no 2020 Vision, no 2020 Vision TV Show, no 5 Campuses, no Prayer Mountain, no WWSM, no $1 Million Productions, and no seats filled on Sunday. The church is about people, and they need to take care of people.
Call me and what I have said here what you will: bitter, angry, and unforgiving. I could care less. I know who I am in Christ now, with no assistance from ICLV or their ministry school. God be with those young people that joined their church and programs to be free from sinful lusts, but found themselves as outcasts the moment they turned out to be…..human.

I find it funny that money, money, money keeps coming up in a lot of these comments. As far as ICLV members, not being great spellers, or long winded in thier defense of thier church, pastors, and beliefs, what does that matter? It seems, that the enemy is trying to drive a wedge through GOD’S people, by getting them to bicker about money. I am not a member of ICLV, but attend reguraly. If it wasn’t for ICLV and other churches like this, I probably wouldn’t be married. They saved my wife’s life. She had her demons, and the church helped her get her life in order. As far as ICLV always passing the bucket around for money, you must not put this out of context. The offering bucket goes around once for your tithes and offerings. It might go around one more time, if we have a guest speaker, as a love offering. I have seen the great works this church does firsthand. I just went through some financial hardships myself. We have received diapers, baby wipes and formula. We also know we could get help with our bills. There has been times when we could give, and times when we could not. However we were always made to feel welcome. I believe folks need to stop bashing any church for asking for tithes and offerings. How do you think these churches pay for the power, salaries, not to mention feeding and clothing the needy. Would you work for free? I think not. In closing, the dispute is between a mother and an adult daughter. DAVID

It is not uncommon when a person becomes spiritually born again (because of believing that Jesus is God) that they want new friends that share that same faith. Sharona Dagani was Jewish. The Jews do not believe Jesus is God.
For that reason, the lifestyle of a born-again Christian and Jew are different. When I first accepted Jesus as God, people used to tell me I had a glassy-eyed happy look on my face all the time. They also said I was glowing. I believe that is why Sharona is so excited about her new life. This Man died to save her life. This Man said He was physical incarnation of God and would forgive her of everything she’d ever done wrong. This Man said He has the power to heal her.
That’s not a story any other religion is telling. Or promising. Or has the power to deliver. The love of Jesus Christ is irresistable and that’s what drew her in.
Her mom should not panick about the money or her new friends. She should get to know them and understand what a wonderful God her daughter has chosen.

I am sending this response in regard to the stories of May 1 & 2 reported about me, Sharona Dagani, by George Knapp:
I feel strongly that this so-called investigation done by Mr. Knapp was done very poorly, one-sidedly, and biased. The reality of these stories was portrayed unfairly and inaccurately. The stories showed very little of my side of the story with most of the attention going toward the other side. The most important part of the interview was not included.
Here is my side of the story (the truth):
First of all, I typed the letter to my biological mother, Ms. Albstein, myself in January 2006. I had had enough of her controlling my life, taking advantage of my finances and abusing me physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially my entire life. When she read the letter, she screamed at the top of her lungs; I have never seen her so angry in my life. She realized she could no longer be in control of me or my trust fund. She fired Miss Perez, my caregiver, and kicked me out of the condo which was bought with my own money from my trust fund. She even kept the keys to the accessible van that was also bought with my trust fund money. I had nowhere to go and Miss Perez allowed me to stay with her. From the day she was fired, she was not paid any money. She supported me emotionally, spiritually, financially, fed me, transported me and cared for me in EVERY way 24 hours a day, everyday. She took the absolute BEST care of me than anyone else (I had caregivers my entire life; Ms. Albstein never took care of me!) – ALWAYS kept me well-groomed and looking my best, cooked nutritious meals, transported me to necessary locations (school, appointments, etc). Miss Perez was NEVER reimbursed for the care she gave me or for the financial support, but did it ALL out of love. I have considered her as my mother from then on, and she’s said to me that she considers me her daughter.
I had a normal life with Miss Perez. I continued with UNLV and did all my usual activities; however, because of the MANY LIES from Ms. Albstein and trust company, a court-appointed guardian was placed over me in March 2006, and I was FORCED out of Miss Perez’s care. I was placed in the hospital that same evening, because of the terrible lies and there was no place for me to go. I had to stay there for about a month, until they could find a rehab facility to which to take me. Because of this ordeal and the amount of time I had to stay in the hospital, I was forced to quit UNLV because I was so far behind in my studies. After the rehab facility, I was placed in an assisted care facility and then into a group home. Since the guardian was placed over me in March 2006, I feel like I have been kidnapped from my ‘mom’ (Miss Perez) and held against my will. Ms. Albstein, my biological mother, never taught me any morals or values. I only learned them in the care of Miss Perez, after I came to know the Lord. The only reason Ms. Albstein wants me back is so she can control my finances and life all over again.
