Jacking Our Gas Prices
As gas prices reach record highs, Nevada lawmakers may make your next fill up even more expensive. But the plan could help solve the state’s road crisis.
Some lawmakers believe a $.03 gas tax will actually help the $4 billion shortfall.
What’s your say on the gas tax and the escalating prices at the pump?

Are you kidding me!!! Just another way for the government to get $$ from us. Isnt our DMV fees suppose to cover the costs of Roads and repairs and such. If anything Our senator who is All for the people (yeah right) should be fighting for lower gas prices. All I hear is a bunch of Blah Blah Blah from him and no action to the things that effect us here on our soil.

This price increase for Gas will most defenatly hurt the economy..While the Oil companies report and injoy Record Profits. So what are we to do???? Does Anyone have a good idea??? Would changing out the Congress Help?? Would changing out the House Help???I have thought about buying a Corn Farm in Iowa and grow nothing but corn for Alternative Fules…but would that even help???? don’t know, Rhonda

I have been driving on Veggie oil about 2 1/2 years now, My fuel cost are under $150.00 per year it is easy and better on the environment. I think the higher gas prices are a good thing it will slow the consumption of gas thus helping the environment.

Raising gas tax will be fatal for any of our representatives. They will be voted down immediately.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Okay lets see…we are being taxed by DMV for regestration and we already pay around 50 cents on each gallon of gas and our roads are not getting improved all around town I see roads that are tore up one day and left that way for days or weeks before being fixed and someone wants to add .03 to our already high price of gas? I think should be paid by nevada casinos they are the ones getting proffits like big oils let them pay to fix the roads!
April 10th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
go figures the government like to pick at our paychecks again! isn’t it hard enough that people are struggling to make a living and the lawmakers want to raise more taxes for things like road work? what about education?
April 10th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Raising gas princes, it amazing our elected leaders can’t come up with a better plan than that. Where does all the money go that we pay the dmv for the various licenses that we all have?? We should raise the taxes on the casino’s, but of coarse mr. and mrs. voter aren’t paying off our senator’s… Our elected leaders in this country are useless, I think we should vote them all out and vote in persons who will work for the people instead of themselves, but I know that won’t happen either but it is a good thought.
April 10th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Is there anything else the government wants to jack up geezzz they have screwed up everything the American People work their butts off for…Jacking up the gas prices which are already to the extreme a little more might put more people homeless cause they can’t afford to live anymore….BOO to the Gas Tax increase
April 11th, 2007 at 5:28 am
The roads here in this town are the worst I have ever driven on. And they never fix them just patch them. Our county and state repersentives don’t care about the roads and they can afford the extra money for gas,
Give the extra tax to the casinos, Then their employees won’t have to be late to work trying to find a way around all the “road repairs” and the tourist will have a nice drive to their hotel.
question. How many times does it take to fix the bridge on Nellis and Saraha?
answer Don’t know yet, still working on it after 20 years.
Our hard earned money at work again.

I’m so mad because, like me there is a lot of us that they don’t get a raise at work every week or every day, and this tax on top of the prices driving us crazy ,for this people in the goverment, they get pay good money, and they don’t use their cars to go to work they use Gov. cars. That’s why they don’t care about the tax and the gas prices, for the hard working people in this country. The Goverment people should get pay less money to make up for the taxes and buy their own gas, see if they like it.Thank you

We are retired and another gas hike is simply rediculous! This state may not have any state tax, but it sure has balooning gas prices due to this greedy tax increase. Whomever is running this state must be either stupid or beyond all help. Just why is our gas price $.30 to $.40 higher than anywhere else in the US? All this town does is let more and more people move in and it sure knows how to hike the gas tax. Shame on the legistature for allowing this.
April 11th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
We deserve the high gas prices! We voted for bush and ever since he’s been in office everything has gone to hell. I remember when Clinton was in office and life was good. Gas was cheap, homes were cheap, economy was great, jobs a plenty.

I am on disability and it’s a fixed income, my wife can’t work yet from her surgery, so going to the Dr 3 – 4 times a week is getting too expensive. Plus having to food shop etc is getting harder when it costs over $125 a week just for gas.

As a native of Las Vegas area and being here for 53yrs I have seen our wet lands taken away and sold to the highest bidder.
Not saved for our children as told. Red Rock almost has houses on it. Houses are being sold on Lake Mead property. A fee to see our parks. (GAS TAX HIKE why not every things for sale right!!!) It doesnt matter we have 7,000 new people moving in every month, along with 50 some cents a gallon gas tax already. Not to mention Sales tax on gasoline. All this money will be spent on other projects rest assured.
It reminds me of the TABACO settlement not one person ever recieved a cent from that. Just try to use your insurance to purchase any products to aid in stopping. Theirs to much money involved.(The Goverment) They loose if you quit. $2.70 per pack goes in the pocket of our elected officials. Its not hard to figgure out whats going on.
GAS TAX you bet you life they will, and how.
April 16th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
You people have got to be the biggest bunch of whiners ever on a blog. “Tax smokers, drinkers, casinos, senators and Bush”. “Throw out the goverment”. “Worst roads in the country”.
Las Vegas is growing so rapidly that nothing can keep up with it, not even the best road system could meet this demand. Roads will always be behind, because even though planners know that they will have to expand a road or bridge in the near future, they cannot place undue tax on the people that curently reside here, while letting the people they expect to use it in the future to be excluded. Lawmakers should look to revenues from the DMV first. Perhaps one should look at a state tax like every other state does. Forgot about that didnt you? Perhaps a higher sales tax. A tax on gas is the most reasonable, It will tax only those that drive on the roads. BE PART OF THE SOLUTION INSTEAD OF THE PROBLEM. AND FOR CHRIST SAKES QUIT WHINING.

It is funny how you get one or two out of the crowd that talk about whining and doing something about it. I bet there the ones that drive BIG SUV’s and or a HUMMER’s and could care less about the economy’s health statis (EARTH) and or commodity. It’s a great idea to come up with another plan for fuel but who has the money to come up with these ideas when it is all being takin from us by taxation. I mean really who is banking off this commodity at present? With all the billions going into there banks maybe they should be the ones to push for a better solution. It’s not like they don’t have enough of the countries money already.
Our economy is bound to crash over this outragious presumption to tax the people. Stores are going to loose out as well as many other businesses because who is going to buy there commodities when cash is low/times are hard/Gas is so costly?
As long as we the consumer continue to allow this tax it is going to continue to happen.
*** Here is an Idea ***
*** 4 people ***
Fill gas tanks all at same time one week. Share your ride with those you work with until your on a 1/4 tank of gas then alternate. Don’t run in and fill up till the end of the month. This is a great idea for Co-Workers.
I’m sure that we can come up with other idea’s to share. But hell at least I put in my two cents worth. Not that anyone is listening/or are they?

It was only a matter of time before gas was going to go crazy thats why I bought a diesel and run 100 percent vegtable oil with no cost then just changing filters My yearly fuel cost is under $100.00. I would say it is time to buy a diesel and tell them were to go.

Gas isn’t that expensive. I moved to Las Vegas during the summer of 1990. My Nevada Power Bill was $50.00 for the month of August. My bill for Aug. 2006 was $250.00. My cable bill (then Prime Cable) was $27.00. My cox bill now is $77.00. Gasoline back then was $1.29 -$1.49
depending on the station. Today 17 years later it is $3.15. So whats the big surprise? I have a 4 cylinder car , it gets 28 mile to the gallon, and I ride my bike every chance I get. I hope gas gets to $5.00 a gallon so people stop driving so irresponsibly.
P.S. The president has no control over the price of gas . OPEC controls the flow of the stuff, not W.
May 14th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
It’s realy funny how every time we have a fuel shortage the oil companies make billions more in profits. How bout taking the highway taxes out of the oil company profits each year, the more profits they make the better the roads get, or if there realy is a shortage, instead of raising the price so high , just allow everybody to get like 10 gallons at a time until the shortage is over and don’t jack the price up so high that it destroys the economy.

I think it is crazy how the gas prices keep going up..I think it is simply because it is very much needed in many cases to get to work, doctors, airports or for many other uses..Some people may say take the bus or ride a bike..Well some people may be able to do this, whiles others may not have these things and would have to go out and buy them and not have the money to buy them..Also there are alot of health issues that may play a big part in this type of transportation..The outdoor heat also plays a big part in this..What it all boils down to is that we need it..Just like the eletric keeps going up..Our eletric bill last year in the summer was $377.00 for one month..And we live in a 3bdrm apt..However this is an upstairs apt..And we are very conservative..Always finding ways to cut down..As well as making every one in the house do the same..But, again it is something we need to use..And it keeps going up..Like it more then likely will go up again in June..I mean this is nothing more then the usual, every year thing..And it continues to go up all the time..What do us consumer have to say about it..Nothing!!!It does not mean anything..Pay checks don’t go up..Not enough pay increases..Food keeps going up..I have a child with ADHD and has me having to stay at home more then the normal parent..I have to go to extreme just to keep getting free medicine at this time..This is running out for me and don’t know what we will do next..I cost about $150.00 to $175.00 a month..And he really does need it, just to keep focused at work..With the medicine he is getting all Bs..Smart child, just has a very very hard time staying focused due to ADHD..And we are the kind of people who are very very thankful for any help we can get..And in return help others if we can..I have helped many people in my life time..I love it..It is a wonderful feeling to give..But we just can’t afford much more..Thank you….

I believe that the “federal regulation” on oil companies should be imposed.(something the Bush administration lifted). Their profits are an all time high and where are those profits going? All the oil people are in Washington. I wanted to know what happened to the “Alaskan Pipe Line”, something that was supposed to fix our problem in the 70’s.I was answered by a chat line in Alaska that it was shut down and that the U.S. never recieved it anyway, it was being shipped to Japan. It’s all politics, Venuzala offered us oil, there price is under a $1 a gallon but because of politics, this goofy administration wouldn’t accept it. What we need is politicians to take “lie dectator tests” before the elections, then we will see if they really plan to carry out the citizens who vote for them wishes. Politics YUK! the ruination of a once great nation.
